Posted December 21, 20168 yr As mentioned in the what I did today thread, I have a coolant leak coming from my heater matrix. While this is being replaced I thought it would be a good idea to flush the coolant system. Has anyone used a radiator/coolant flush additive, such as Wynn’s for example, on their Zed? More importantly, does anyone know if such additives/flush treatments are likely to cause any harm or have an adverse effect on my cooling system. December 22, 20168 yr Used the Wynn's product many years ago when I first had the zed. Then flushed the system, with the clean water from the garden hose until I was sure it was as clean as possible. Then added the correct anti-freeze. I be doing the same again this year just to keep the cooling system in tip top condition. As I think the cooling system sometimes gets forgotten about, in relation to the oil servicing etc. Personally I'm not sure I would put any additive in there tbh, but that's just me.
December 22, 20168 yr Author Perhaps, that was poorly worded on my part. By additives I simply meant flush treatments you 'add' to the coolant, before draining and replacing with the appropriate coolant/antifreeze. Good to know that someone has been using one without cause for concern. Thought I would check in case they were not suitable for older cars such as the Zed. December 22, 20168 yr I've use coolant flush treatments in both of my Z31's and also my previous Z32 without any issues, usually once it has been used then flushed through with clean water, then the correct coolant etc added i've not noticed any adverse affects
December 22, 20168 yr Also make sure you use the correct coolant as well, see thread below http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?181225-Coolant-antifreeze-recommendation-amp-quantity&highlight=coolant+type Post #8 - really useful detail/s

December 24, 20168 yr Lot's of good info Howard and I must flush and refill my Z soon. Yup - good info indeed. And with the older "blue" type antifreeze, it's also good to drain and refill every two years.... .....I had mine flushed in August, when I had the radiator and main hoses replaced. I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
December 24, 20168 yr Do yourself a massive favour and give it all a damn good flush. Run a hose through rad etc then replace all the pesky water pipes, cost you more in time than money. Biggest cause of zed pains are those 25 year old rotten pipes.
