As my car is an Impul 932s, I'm trying to get original impul parts to complete the 'set' if you like, and one of these was this gearstick as one of the options:

So there was my task.

So I took an aluminium rod and cut it to length

Then did a big chamfer, drill a large and small hole in the end and tapped a thread into it.

Then used a piece of stainless steel, thinned it down to the right size and put a thread in that.

Then I briefly did the top by chamfering it but its rushed and will need redoing.

Here's what it looks like:

So body nearly done.

I moved onto the brass bushings because it's not worth buying them

Drill hole in the centre

Thin down to minutely the diameter for a snug fit. (Admittedly I overshot twice)

And hit it really hard with a hammer.

And the smart ones of you will notice the previous owners budget attempt at a short shifter, but welding a bit on to make it longer [emoji38]

Not to everyones taste but I want to make my car as the original from IMPUL with all options checked.

Good work there but these are fairly easy to find, would it not be worth just buying a genuine one?

I searched "impul" on yahoo auctions & these 3 were in the first 2 pages.

How on earth are you going to stamp the "Impul" legend into the knob....?

Last time I checked there weren't any but it's nice to know for the future. But for now I'm being cheap and I kinda enjoy fab work like this.

I can't really do it, so the best I can do is acid etch it into the surface.

I'm sure someone will be able to laser engrave it?

At which point for one, its economically unviable. Working on the thought that one from Japan would cost double its cost to your door you'd be looking at £50-60. You'd be paying an engineering company for an hour, set up etc. What's an hours labour, 50? And you've still got a fake and the end.

Well done on learning some stuff Ali.

As Stephen says, it would probably not work out well from a pricing perspective, but perhaps I could bribe the school teachers into using theirs. I don't know how well it would work on such a curved surface though, may have to do one line and then rotate it etc.

you mean one of these??????

Well I mean it would be nice to have an original, but I'm not prepared to pay out silly money as I've already nearly made it :D

I'm also broke lol so maybe another time.

2 x injen couplers + £15 and its yours posted

Sounds like a bargain to me:thumbup:

Sod all that fab work, get yourself one of these....

Unless you were on a motorway, that gearknob would be pointless.

Imagine the mess once you changed gear a few times.....
