As title folks - the NEC 2016 is almost upon us; and we need 4 of the very best cars this club has to offer, in order to represent the Z32 and club on the world stage.

Dates for the show are:

Thursday 10th November - be there around 9am for set-up

Friday 11th, Saturday 12th, Sunday 13th November - show open to the public

Sunday 13th November - remain until after the show closes, dismantle and leave

Your car will be locked in for the entire duration - no exceptions; and no chance of arriving later or leaving earlier.

You do not have to remain with it; although your assistance in manning the stand over the weekend would be appreciated. And if you can't stay, then you'd have to entrust your keys to one of the committee on hand over the weekend. Just in case of emergencies!

The club has booked (twin) rooms at the Ibis hotel; the cost of which is covered by us. Albeit you'll be expected to share with another participant. Meals etc are not covered, you will be expected to pay for your own food...

Time is now of the essence, this thread is not a debate; or for opinions to be voiced. If you have a Zed which you feel will meet the required standard; and are willing to participate and able to commit to the whole weekend, then you are welcome to volunteer....! We had a few potential volunteers from our thread back in January - if you're still up for it, please let us know ASAP. This thread will be closed on Sunday evening, so what are you waiting for......

Richard:clover:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

There is no conspiracy. No underhand secrecy. Just a desire from the committee to do the best that can be done in the time.

Yes, there are lots of other cars around, but not all of the owners are here.

I am sorry that some of the offers were missed, but when time gets short then the decision comes down to what cars are known to be good, have been seen and validated, etc.

Time gets short for all kinds of reasons, and there was a gap here where members of the committee had other commitments as well. These things happen. But still, the best interested of the club are always at the heart of any decisons.

We have some great cars chosen, and with the club stand being smaller than expected, less than we would have liked. Just another contributing factor.

So if we are learning lessons for next year, then we start earlier, get pictures of cars not just offers of cars, get more details than we have previously, to make things better.

I must admit i did find it strange why this thread was not updated, i was told of the 4 on the 13th Oct through a private pm, so not my place to announce.

The members are only just finding out now through being prompted by the Basildon one, spin that how you like...........that is not right, when was it going to be announced :confused1:.

You then wonder why there is some frustration.

Whilst I personally don't really have much of a problem with how the cars were picked given the timescales, I think I understand Chris' annoyance. The club does come across as a little cliquey at times and I don't think this situation has helped that impression. And I must say I don't think it's fair to lambaste him for trying to say that.

But hey live and learn, just something to remember for the future I guess.

I would also add, and I think I've said this before, I think it's foolish to rely on forum threads for things like this. If you want club members to receive important information, I think emails should be sent out alerting them to the situation and the relevant thread for discussion.

The thing is, Chris' only contribution to any thread regarding this show is to whinge about the selection criteria. There's nothing constructive there - it's just criticism.

I personally don't understand why it's such an issue for him. He doesn't want to be left out of the club's proceedings, yet abandoned the club stand at JAE last year and also spectacularly failed to make any appearance at the AGM in Coventry this year.

I don't know the ins and outs regarding either of those decisions by him and, to be honest, it's of surprisingly little importance to me. Had he been at the AGM, he could've had "his say" on the winners that were chosen out of the Zeds present that weekend. Hell, he may even have been a winner himself! But he wasn't there so therefore had no input on Joel's or (arguably) my own "appointment" for the NEC show.

I'm still waiting to hear which cars he'd have chosen out the 8 that were offered. Joel, FunkySi, AndrewG, Phoenix, IanL, Phutumsch, Aly and myself.

If I'm completely honest, I have no idea what Aly's car looks like so I can't comment on whether we've missed a golden opportunity with him or not. As I said yesterday, I was debating pulling out and letting Phutumsch have my spot as I thought his Slicktop would be a cleaner example than my T-Top, so I'm not getting involved in this because I believe my car to be absolutely deserving of a spot or anything like that. In fact, I stated in this very thread that I wanted to see either Dougal's or Gaz's SWBs on display as they're both superb cars.

Phoenix removed his blue Slicktop from the running once a few other people stated their availability, so that left 7 cars available (including Aly's unknown quantity). Joel got his spot due to winning two awards at the AGM and IanL was picked as he was the only Vert owner to step forward.

So that left two slots and 5 cars. Now, one of those slots was for a SWB so, as Ash took his car out of the running, that just left Phutumsch and myself. I was chosen, by all accounts, because I won an award at Coventry and also because Andy couldn't be 100% sure that his Slicktop would be ready in time.

That left 3 cars for the final slot: AndrewG, FunkySi and Aly. As I've said ad nauseum, I don't know what Aly's car is like - I only know that he classed it as a modified example. How modified is anyone's guess. I'm assuming that the Committee viewed the situation the same way so that left 2 cars to choose from. And Si was only chosen because his car is white.

How could a public poll really have turned out any differently? The only change I can really imagine would've been to swap Si out for Andrew and, as far as I'm aware, Andrew doesn't feel that there's been some huge miscarriage of justice here.

All of the growling and snarling last night served no purpose other than to make my phone go crazy but, if someone can tell me how they believe a public vote would've netted a substantially different result, please do!

It would stand as the modified example.

Again you still haven't read my post from January, why you keep referring to JAE 2015 I do not know, it has absolutely no bearing or relevance to this matter.

And I would love to have attended the AGM this year but unfortunately it clashed with something I had planned with my children and they come before me or my activities, and I fail to see how it has any bearing or relevance to this matter.... Don't recall seeing you at Beaulieu....

And I didn't see any growling or snarling (maybe you were but obviously we couldn't see that)?

You really aren't grasping my point in all this, the result ISNT the issue, it's how it was achieved as I already said, being a subscribed member gives me the right to voice (or whinge as you put it) my opinion.

If I have something to say I will say it, as have you in many threads about different topics. Is that not part of being in a club or on a forum?

Or are we supposed to follow the status quo like sheep and say nothing to not offend people higher up the chain of command?

I don't believe for one minute the committee simply forgot to post anything about this before now, it was IMO intentional to keep quiet until the event was upon us. I doubt we would be discussing this now if I hadn't asked the question last night.

For the record I don't like the way it has all been handled and I hope lessons are learnt for the future.

The reason I bring up JAE 2015 is because you're very vocal about wanting to be an important part of the club, yet disappeared off the club stand there after one night. As I said, I didn't know why you weren't at the AGM - now I do.

You didn't see me at Simply Japanese because I couldn't afford it.

Your belief that the Powers That Be deliberately withheld the NEC lineup is fair enough, but I have to ask the question why they would deliberately withhold it...? What difference does it make to the general populace of this forum?

Am I to believe that, for example, my inclusion on the stand would change peoples' minds about whether to visit the show or not...?

I hope lessons are learned for the future as well. I hope that you accept that some things don't necessarily need to be thrown open to public scrutiny, so we can avoid another rehash of this debacle!

Is there anything in the AUP that states that paying a subscription entitles a member to a say in any or all decisions?

I mean, what next? Are we going to start demanding a vote on whether to ban people or not...?

I don't believe for one minute the committee simply forgot to post anything about this before now, it was IMO intentional to keep quiet until the event was upon us. I doubt we would be discussing this now if I hadn't asked the question last night.

You are free to believe what you want, but the truth is, forgetting to post it is exactly how it happened.

If you hadn't asked the question, then we would still be thinking that it had been done, and yes, it's a lesson learnt.

I don't lie. About anything. Not at home. Not at work. Not at play. Speaking the truth gets me into enough trouble already, why would I want to make it worse?

In all of my dealings with the club since its inception, everything I have done has been about enhancing and preserving the club and community for as long as possible.

Even when I took a hiatus from the club after selling my first car, I made sure that the club was created as a bona fide entity to carry it on as it was intended, and when I returned a few years later, it was still being run with the interests of the club at its core.

All of the people that have come and gone through the committee have acted with integrity and honesty and none more so than the current members. Yes, there may have been some decisions made in the past on personal feelings, particularly on some bannings, but the people I have seen banned are due to abusive, threatening or personally insultive behaviour, or crossing the line of decency making racist comments or displaying unsavoury bigotry. Traits that are not welcome here.

What you are doing is insulting me and the committee personally, questioning our values, because we forgot to do something. Thanks for that. I and the committee must feel really encouraged and appreciated by that.

We all work, we all have families, we all have personal lives, and the time and effort we all make to keeping the club running and as friendly as possible is because we all have the club interests at heart, but that doesn't make us infallible.

Not every negative outcome is a result of deliberate deceit, conspiracy or malevolence.

If that is how you view the events around you, then you have my sympathy, because you are focussing too much attention on the wrong side of life.

Well said Craig. This club has got to where it is today by being true to its leadership rules and membership strength in supporting the club. There is a few who will like to create waves but in the end the club marches on. I have seen them come and seen them go and still we move on. Suck it on guys and do something for the club rather than telling us what we the Committee need to do.

After Brexit and what's happening over the pond with the Presidential election (Donald Trump, really??), would we really want to give "the people" a vote??

Who knows what abomination we'd have have up in the stand?? :glare:

Jokes aside, the committee give up their free time for the club so clearly have its best interests at heart. Sure there is a lot of boring stuff behind the scene that we don't know about and probably don't want to know about that they deal with regularly. If they've made this decision, then trust that they believe it's the best for the club.

The thing is, Chris' only contribution to any thread regarding this show is to whinge about the selection criteria. There's nothing constructive there - it's just criticism.

So that is the truth and reasoning behind your posts Chris? Whilst I am grateful to you for actually asking the question - a question we indeed genuinely forgot to answer; as Craig and I have apologised for - are you going to hold it against us for simply overlooking to announce the exhibitors?

You are free to believe what you want, but the truth is, forgetting to post it is exactly how it happened.

My thoughts too - and I am not just agreeing with Craig because we are both serving committee members; but because Craig is speaking the truth..........

Well said Craig. This club has got to where it is today by being true to its leadership rules and membership strength in supporting the club. There is a few who will like to create waves but in the end the club marches on. I have seen them come and seen them go and still we move on. ........And likewise with Gary's comments.

None of us are doing the jobs we do on the committee for recognition or praise. But because we love these cars and enjoy doing our bit to keep them alive, by helping to run the UK's premier Z32 dedicated owners' club! We are only human like everyone else - and we do have lives, families and day jobs to manage as well.

We had a very successful and useful AGM at Coventry in the summer - wherein our members were invited to have their say on club issues. Minutes were taken; and, owing to the aforementioned "other commitments" we all have, I apologise for having not published them some 4 months after the event. They will be up to view shortly, though, once I have the NEC (and maybe the F1 comp) out of the way...:oops:

What we don't need, are the accusations of being lairs, schemers and general scoundrels of the first order!!

If anyone thinks the committee is doing a bad job, they are free to say so. At the next AGM, maybe in a separate thread, in the private area of the forums? Or however; so long as it is objective and justified. But accusing us of being liars, in a thread regarding the club's participation in a major international car show is bad form, Chris.....

Thank you Aly - and duly noted in our memory banks for the next show!

And please accept our apologies for overlooking you when communicating with other potential exhibitors; I genuinely overlooked your interest in this thread. Also with the relatively short lead-in time to fix the arrangements - and not knowing much about your car - we had thought it best to play safe and not go for a modified car this time around. Especially as the organisers had "suggested" we drop down to just 4 cars.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I personally can't see a problem with anything the committee has done, I wouldn't be able to give up 3-4 days to commit to a car show, Kudos to those that can:thumbup:. So there was an oversight in notifying everyone, no biggy unless you wanted to be there, but with only 4 spots and two award winning Z's already through, limited volunteers, certain models required to showcase the car, it really does narrow down the final two choices. This event is about highlighting and raising awareness of the Marque and the Club!! No conspiracies that I can see, bickering on here just looks petty to the majority of GUESTS, that are looking on here everyday (15 members and 114 guests at this very moment), that's 114 possible members that are looking at bickering and squabbling members!! Who'd want to get involved in that!!. It's a fecking car club, not a government!! No offence Chris but from where I'm sitting, (at times) you seem to be a bit of a "Drama Queen", always looking to pick holes in and then argue with committee decisions (I can recall another thread regarding contributions?). I feel the decisions made are for the good of the club as a whole and not for the individual, which is how it should be.

Just my opinion.

It seems though the club discount code once entered the Friday option disappears, why is that, i despair :surrender:.

I believe one can pay on the door.........my thoughts are this will be more than the online price (£29.50), does anybody know please ?

£12 to park - phew...................i'll be seeking out something else methinks.

I'm sorry everyone but my green zed is still off the road Maybe next year if I'm still in the uk

Hi Andy,

I can answer that - the show organisers, for reasons known only to themselves, only offer club discounts on the Saturday and Sunday. Why? I don't know - seems weird to me as well mate. But it's not just applicable to us, it's for all visitors...

You can pay on the door; and yes, tickets will be more expensive - not sure how much though, as I haven't looked. Plus you'll have to queue to buy, as opposed to walking straight in.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I have just purchased a ticket for Friday. I have been able to get a return train from Euston for £24, I just can't face the M25, M1, M6. Look forward to meeting members on the stand.

I don't want to sound alarmist or anything, but it's snowing here....
