I've decided to go back to a dry air filter so wondering how a single A'PEXi power intake compares to dual stock filters.

How would these options compare in terms of air flow and filtration? Also air temperature - I presume stock might be colder due to being enclosed in the air box, but with the position so far in front of the engine it probably doesn't make much difference?

Still not planning on any other modifications so proper function and not ****ing the MAF are most important!

I had apexi filters for years ( got z1 pop chargers now) only time I had a problem was on a really wet day, I had nothing to deflect water (spray) away from it, but any cone would have suffered, i would say be careful lots of knock-off apexi filters out there, a colleague bought one off ebay, and compared to my genuine one the quality was shocking, I wouldn't have put it on my zed

Yeah I had problems with the K&N filters on a very wet day, even with them being in the air box. I think it was the oil more than anything, maybe the water just pushed it through.

I would be buying from CZP anyway so should be genuine. Just wondering if it's worth it.

Plenty of people have run apexi in the past with no issues but they are not readily available any more so i guess people have changed to i different brand. I also run the pop charger setup its a good size and easy to clean and havent had any trouble thus far in the wet with it.

Got the filter today. I was hoping to have it fitted, thanks for warning me about removing the lower air box

You can leave the lower air box ducts in there as it requires you to take the bumper off and get to the wings. Just unscrew the box from the maf and the mounts next to the headlights and pry out.

I can definitely get it off with the bumper on. It will just take a long time as I can't get much range of motion with a spanner on the hidden front mount bolts.

I was talking about the ducts that feed the stock air box that runs under the headlights to the wings.

Why would you remove those though? Surely they still improve air flow to the filter?

Finally got somewhere tonight. I had been going by this guide, where he doesn't seem to take off the bumper mounting plates to remove the lower air box. How that's possible is beyond me.

Just need to do some cleaning tomorrow and put it all together. Hopefully it's obvious enough as the instructions are in Japanese!

These, no not really as the opening sort faces backwards. Leave them in if you want, they do no harm.

Better to have open space for more air flow from the bumper i guess.

Had my A'pexi in for about 10 years now I think. No problems at all. On the very rare occasions I have been caught out in rain, I've also never encountered an issue. I wouldn't go back to a stock filter, they're quite restrictive. If I had a Z where I had to use it in the wet, I'd make a simple splash-pan for the filter.

I don't know if it is a stock impul feature or what but I do have a plastic splash guard that goes from the upper vent of the bumper and hangs from where the bumper mounts to stop water splashing it. Hard to explain but I could throw a picture up another day if people are interested.

So is the filter serviceable or do you replace it entirely?

The A'pexi is not a washable filter iirc and it's also dry, so the only maintenance is to take it off and vacuum it it once a year. It would be advisable to replace if you use the car as a daily and in all weathers. Mine simply gets dusty

Yeah there does seem to be a service/replacement interval on the instructions, but again, Japanese! Cheers

That's the standard pleated guard. I removed mine as I use my car in dry weather, but it can be utilised. A lot have either been removed or perished (they split and separate from the bumper)

Oh ok, it probably does reduce airflow slightly as air no longer flows directly to the intake but has to suck up ambient air but I'm not bothered really as long as it doesn't harm the car.

Si, I'm going to change mine from stock, can you kindly point me towards a link where I can source the A`pexi, that's if it's still available and you have time, ta. Tried poaching round on eBay and got totally confused :-) I understand I need an adapter as well? Just want to get the right kit from the off, cheers

Got a closer look at these PIAA units as I was cleaning earlier. I thought they were for the fog lights but they say "Euro Sports Horn". Are they standard?

That's strange, I have a PIAA relay next to the ecu which Lee said he had never seen before. It was a lighting relay unit of sorts but was disconnected.

All done now. The kit is tidy enough, although the splash guard brackets put a bit of a bend on it - hopefully it's strong enough for that.

I won't pretend I can feel any difference in performance, but first impressions are good. Steady idle and not too much difference in sound.
