Correct way to check Transmission fluid and what is the correct Oil to use ? UK car

Hi ...could someone tell me the correct way to check the level and fill the auto transmission fluid on my UK Auto please and what it the correct engine oil to use please ?

    LOL...minefield of opinions but ive always used a good quality semi 10/40...i think early to mid 90,s engines run fine without using fully synthetic and regular changes with a new filter is far more engine friendly than leaving a full synth in for thousands of miles because you paid £40 for it. Other people think different and thats fine too.:wink:
