After a few months of waiting (and hoping) the Zed has finally sold! So with that the time has come to bid my farewell to the club and scene after almost 10yrs. I'd like to say an absolutely massive thanks to everyone on here who has, over the years, offered up help and advice with all the issues that come with the territory of owning one of these fantastic cars. Without you I would have thrown in the towel much sooner and without ever having had the chance to experience the joys of owning and driving the 300zx. This car has taught me so much and has given me some exceptional experiences and some exceptional friends. I wish you all the best and the club a successful future!

A note on the value of these cars - mine sold for not far off asking price. Whether this means the value of these cars is increasing or not, I couldn't say but what I have noticed through my own experience of selling it is that despite the very frequent discussion on here of "why aren't our cars considered more valuable?" there are many in the club (often those who shout loudest on the aforementioned discussions) who are quick to rubbish or find fault with ads which dare ask for price that is more reasonable! My personal opinion is that unless you are actively in the market of trading these cars (and so have current specialist knowledge on their market value) or are being constructive in your comments, keep them to yourself. You are doing neither the seller nor the club/scene any service.

And on that merry note (and with a few pics for attention the new ride), I bid you all farewell!!

I'm glad to hear you got close to your asking price. Well done.

As for the part I've highlighted: I expressed a valid opinion and was indeed constructive with my advice, so I can sleep soundly tonight. If I personally went to see a "high-priced" Zed that was for sale and the driver's seat was worn through to the metal frame, it would be a huge black mark against the car! It would honestly make me question how much care the rest of the car had received if the cabin could be allowed to become so shabby.

But that's just my opinion, and I'm quite at liberty to express it. :)

Again, well done on the sale.

Good-bye-ee! good-bye-ee!

Wipe the tear, baby dear, from your eye-ee.

Tho' it's hard to part I know,

I'll be tickled to death to go.

Don't cry-ee! don't sigh-ee!

There's a silver lining in the sky-ee.

Bonsoir old thing, cheerio! chin chin!

Nah-poo! Toodle-oo!

Good-bye-ee!

And you are so right about people killing their own car values dream!!! On Porsche, supra & NSX etc you ALMOST NEVER see any arguing over their cars being offered for a high price.

Oh Man...... Met you once a few years ago with your lovely Z and now you sell her and your leaving......

All the best for the future, hope you will pop in to say Hi from time to time...?

Being a Z lover and forum member doesn't mean you need to own a Z to pop in for a chat......

Take care....

Russ

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

All the best Vig, really pleased you got got what you wanted for the zed and beautiful Jag to enjoy.

After reading his for sale thread again i must say your posts were plain irritating to the seller ime sure and iff ide seen them at the time i would of deleted your "off topic" comments. Ime sure you would,nt like the same type of posts aimed at your leather work when trying to sell:rolleyes:

Cya Vig, best regards for the future. Shame I never met you or your car since you're even in the same town as me, but I hope the next seller takes good care of it.

I want one but never letting the Z go again.

Seriously?

He was dropping his price and inviting offers, so I offer some "constructive advice" on how to improve the appearance of his car for potential buyers... and you reckon that's off topic...?! Uh huh....

For your information, I've had some "off topic" comments on my leatherwork on here in the not too distant past and I must've missed the part where you turned up to save the day!

I didn't tear his car apart in any way - I simply suggested that the state of his interior, as depicted by his worn-out driver's seat, might put people off from paying such a strong price for the car. If opinions and advice that are specifically based on the topic in question are no longer allowed, and an area that I specialise in no less, then consider me stunned....

It would of been more constructive iff done via PM but ime sure you know that...As for saving your day regarding"off topic" comments on your work i must of missed that one saving someone elses day.Now ive said my bit, you,ve said your bit so your call on the matter but i wont be replying again...

I'd still like to know precisely how, in your opinion, my comments regarding his driver's seat were "off topic" please? Y'know, seeing as how they were directly related to one of his bad points about the car that he was accepting offers on...

Here's the funny thing: I watched all manner of "off topic" comments (by your definition, at least) appear in a steering wheel thread of mine... where people were discussing whether or not a set of seams were an equal length apart or not... twas a little amusing watching it all unfold, if I'm honest...

But hey, if discussions on a "forum" should ideally take place via PM then perhaps I'm simply misunderstanding the actual purpose of a forum! As I said, I wasn't nasty or unpleasant regarding either the owner or his car in any way, shape or form - I simply offered a very constructive idea to help his sale.

That'll teach me, won't it......

This thread is becoming somewhat nursery grade..

I've read through its entirety and to be honest I'm failing to see where the argument is?

Shifty had put his car up for sale at what's deemed in the market place as fairly top money for a z. From what I've seen of shiftys car, it is a fairly good example of the car and hat off to him for asking the price he has, we all know how much money goes in to keeping these cars up.

That said however, mondos comments after the vehicle being for sale for a while and the price being decreased isnt insulting in any way. In fact if he'd given me the same advice or comment I'd have seen his point quite clearly.

The fact that one of the seats has a hole in it and is showing the framework is something that I would have seen as a big down point as a prospective buyer and if you look at what mondos has said, shifty might have got his initial asking price and sold the car quicker, had he just found a good condition driver seat and installed it.

There's no insult here, just a suggestion to try and help a guy out.

Think it's time people stopped tearing each other new butt holes over such trivial matters and used the forum as a place to communicate in a way that doesn't make it feel like a kindergarten..

If people are going to get butt hurt by such a trivial thing, it begs the question why?

Nothing mondos said affected the cars sale, the car will sell itself on its own merits. Its not like he said that cars a piece of trash is it?

Can't we just simmer down a little and behave like reasonable adults and members of the same club here?

Seems like the place is sometimes so full of tedious and pathetic rows over such trivial things and to be honest it gets bloody tiresome sometimes..

If you're feeling particularly tetchy, take a day off.

No one is here to do anyone an injustice, we're all friends here and all here for the same reason.. Such a shame that a farewell post becomes a fighting ground..

He's got a point though lads. When a strongly-priced car comes up for sale, you can count on it being torn to shreds here.

Either way he has moved on to bigger and better things. I love that Jag although it reminds me of a Fiat Coupe from the front. That's not a bad thing though.

I'd like to bid Shifty a farewell as after all it's a goodbye thread, you had a lovely Z and a totally savage Jag:punk:

I hope you have a look in from time to time and best of luck with your new purchase bud. If anyone else wants to wish Shifty a farewell by all means work away. But I invariably think that this thread should be closed if it's going to cause a row between two people I hold in high regards.

Rich

In my opinion: the majority of the "high-priced" Zeds that appear have some quite glaring issues with them. Case in point; the guy on eBay who bought a blue wide-arch for around £7k and then put it up for sale a week later for £15k!

I don't know Sumshiftyguy. I've never met him and I find it highly unlikely that I ever will now. BUT! As has already been said, he was asking very strong money for his car which, in itself, is no bad thing. It shows that prices are on the rise at long last and, perhaps more importantly, that people are prepared to pay them. :thumbup1:

The only thing I did was to offer some advice when he dropped his price yet again. That's all. If he had a problem with that, he could have sent me a PM asking me to shush. As Znut suggested I should've done. Rather than doing that, he fired a shot or two in this very thread and they could only have been directed at me as I was the only person to post anything even remotely negative (even though my comments were constructive, rather than negative).

Again, I didn't tear his car apart whatsoever. I'm personally very pleased that he got near his asking price for it! As Paul said though; why should we have to restrict dialogue which isn't derogatory to the PM system? This is a forum after all......

Well this thread is clearly off topic now and imo should be cleaned all apart from farewell comments. Oh the irony...

PS sorry about the wonky steering wheel :p

Wrong. Very wrong, in fact.

The OP specifically mentioned people "bashing" high-priced Zeds in general, which was directed at me. I responded. Then Znut responded to me, and so on and so forth.

Nothing off-topic here at all. All well within the OP's initial post.

Whether he did or not doesn't change the topic of this thread is a farewell thread, you supported your opinion and i agree with you, but it didn't need the whole thread filled with 'i should have deleted off topic comments', 'it wasn't off topic', 'i back up mondo here'... It's when these comments add nothing to the thread that it becomes tedious.

You said you're piece.

Guys, please......

......Yes, Vig has sold his Zed and, whilst bidding us "farewell," has no doubt made some good friends on this forum over the years!

So much so, that Vig may well return from time to time, to say "hi" to us all. So come on, let's not continue with the petty bickering, which could stop Vig returning - or prevent any other potential new member from joining us...:nono:

I can, and will, clean up this thread if Vig asks - or if others feel it is in the best interests of the club and its members!

Richard:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
