Hello!

So today I am investigating my decat install and wondering how on earth this works... I have the car lifted on stands and have been checking out teh bolts. I have a japspeed style decat pipe to try out.

It is stupidly tight in there so I am probably going to fail at this, but will giev it a shot...

My bolts all look pretty rusted, but I will try and save them with some WD-40 and a wire brush. These bolts appear to be fixed into the elbow pipe, in that there isn't a bolt head that I can feel, is that right? So it is just a case of releasing and working on the nut and thread?

Thanks for the tip on the drill :)

Can I just cut the cat temp sensor wires? Those are well and truly rusted! They dont even resemble bolts anymore, just a pile of rust! Will it throw any codes or lights on the dash if I cut it?

Progress today, 4 bolts off, just 1 sheared as the corrosion was too far gone, so to prevent that on the last I am going to dremel the stud shaft with a wire sander. Hopefully then the nut wont get stuck.

Thanks for the help guys!! Relly couldn't have done it without the advice here. It was a success!! I have left only two bolts on one of the downpipes as a bolt sheared, but will be okay hopefully..

After 2 days of laying under the car feeling claustrophobic as hell, it is done and I am so chuffed. It feels like it revs a bit quicker, and sounds awesome!! No smoke as of yet....

I cut the cat temp sensors so hopefully that won't come and bite me in the ass.

Video to come :)

Good to hear you got there in the end mate, I would however get that 3rd bolt sorted as soon as you can though.

I think I will take it to a garage to sort that bolt, I am tired of laying under the car haha

I know what you mean mate, the claustrophobia can really mess with your head.

yeah, it kept going through my head how brutal it woudl be to get crushed by it. Of course I have it on Jack stands and a couple of trolley jacks as well but you know

So is propane OK?

Read again Andrew...it is iff you have a bottle of oxygen and torches:wink:

Went for a spin and definitely feels like it pick up quicker and sounds very different! Will leave it a while before i decide if i prefer it, but think i do. No smoke either so far!

Yeah elbows back :D

Alic, no probs. Drop me a message if you need anything. It is ALL about the right sockets and the technique for removing them. Get yourself a dremel so you can sand off the rust on the studs as that is what makes them break.

You are not far from me so happy to lend a hand if you need

I have spare elbows which I had to grind the studs off, so if needed I can use those to drill through and put bolts through. The previous auto box was changed near enough last year so I hope the bolts won't be too rusted on.

Just to update, couldnt be happier with the new setup!

Have driven around 300 miles and no sign of smoke what so ever so fingers crossed tubs are sound.

The sound has a small rasp at around 2k, but then when you open it us the Veilside comes alive and sounds brilliant! Great presence :D

I'm a bit confused. Are you still using the stock turbo elbows? What decat/front pipe are you using?

Stock elbows, the decat is a 2.5 system Ash gave me from when he took it off. It doesn't say a brand on it (not japspeed).

I just want a better/louder exhaust, I'm not concerned about faster spools or more boost potential.

How come replacing the elbows would make it spool faster?.. Is there that much difference between the designs?

So you just want some noise, bit Rice that mate. The spool and efficiency are the point, the extra noise is a trade off.

Because it separates the flow. Instead of turbine side air and waste gate side air mixing together is a malestorm you get get a smoother air flow. More air is able to pass due to reduced turbulence and therefore resistance. This is turn means less lag and greater flow.

As I said, I'm not chasing power. I love the presence of it being loud and burbly, I clearly have different priorities to you.
