Just thinking aloud,my n/a is needing work and thinking along the lines of stuff it do a TT swap,am I just been stupid is this a stupid idea and going to cost way more than it's worth doing? Any idea if costs involved to get a TT swap done? Anyone had it done?

It can be done, I too looked at it. In the main you're looking for a TT engine, plus turbos / intercoolers and exhaust system, obviously the ECU too. You can keep your NA diff as the ratios give faster acceleration I believe, but less top end. If you haven't already you'll need to replace your brakes with TT calipers and discs.

Edit - I think the gearbox is fine (for manual anyway) when I checked. I'm sure there will be others along shortly who know more detail.

IMO it depends what your na needing work means. If you just need new spark plugs, stay with the NA but if you need new piston rings... you'll need a new engine anyway. I think you need to ask yourself what you want from the car; do you want speed and acceleration to blow your t*ts off, or do you want a fun car for country roads and only want the tt 'because its the better car'. The NAs still do have low end torque so for just going round windy roads it will provide the power, it just doesnt have the push at the top end on the straight.

To add to Master Cookie, You'll also need a TT wiring loom with ECU, so its a tad more than an engine swap.

Some info on doing the swap from Z1:

No you don't have too have a tt loom you can use the n/a one

No you don't have too have a tt loom you can use the n/a one

That's assuming you're using an ebc.

And most do all that's needed is engine with tubs Ecu fuel pump oil cooler tt gear box and ajust the prop shaft as a n/a won't fit the tt box but keep the n/a back part

Let's face it guys, the expenses involved are more likely to cost more than just buying a tt and making it good.

You can pick up a tt car for around £2000 at times and yes it'll need time and money to put right but at the same time, it was made as a tt, everything's there, brakes, ecu, engine, turbos, exhausts etc..

Swapping from auto to manual, yes I think that's worth the hassle and expense, but from na to tt...

Better to bite the bullet and get the tt car rather than the time and money involved in an engine swap and all that goes with it.

I'd even go as far to say, just save and get a decent fresh import. These are big enough money pits at the best of times, without getting involved in all that! But that's my opinion

Intercoolers, pipework, upgraded or tt rad, vented front bumper,tt front disc,s (thicker),DVLA updated info....not a saturday morning swap over as a lot of people think. Unless it was a special car like say a slicky or a totally rust free body ide sell and buy a TT,but thats me:)

tt front disc,s (thicker)

I've been wondering about that, isn't the difference only on very early models?

Thanks for all the advice so to sum it up. Don't be a div and waste a fortune swapping something that I don't really need to swap as it is quick enough for what I need, spend the cash have the Cambelt etc done and done waste thousands of pounds making it to a TT just finish her look after her and when more cash comes along buy a TT as well lol. Now time to sort some issues out on her then

Just while I'm here, have a button / switch next to gear stick ( not power hold button ) and also one under steering wheel that don't seem to do anything any idea what the my could be.

Lots of imports have fog light switches next to the gearstick, or alternatively an alarm.

Thought so just a shame the car I bought doesn't seem to have either lol another job to do

The car will need functional fog lights to pass mot so yes. Nothing you've said though seems like any big problems, does it run ok? Any rust?

Runs sweet tbh just got a bit excited at buying my first Zed and dint really look it over, no history so obviously needs Cambelt and service I'm sourcing parts for body, bumper etc. Main issue tbh is electrics, radio has been bodged in and Arieal doesn't wrk and dash lights have stopped working when I replaced the pod on the heating controls. I k own probably just need to go through it bit by bit and then eventually wrap it or respray ( any opinions would be good ) but was also thinking of stripping and rebuilding it this was her when I got her

Forget about the radio and Ariel for now. Cambelt can seem scary, but if you do it carefully it's not too bad, can take a couple hours, can take a weekend.

You probably just blew a fuse when you installed the heater pod or something silly.

I would advise against wrapping for a 'cheap colour change ', it won't last, it scratches and heat can shrink it, best to save up and get a good respray so you'll know you dont have to worry about it again.

Glad you're getting rid of the bumper/s, look horrible imo, you'll find a new bumper easily enough.

You may have rushed into buying it, paying that much for an na should get you a mint one imo. But nothing can't be fixed and it's relatively cheap problems (excluding respray)

Good luck!

Front bumper got ripped off lol I can't believe how bad it was it was worse in real life. unsure about back bumper still on it at the minute and side skirts (opinions wanted) Paid £1700 for her so wasn't as bad. Any idea on respray costs ???? £2k

....Yes - this. Not really worth the cost and agro IMO. Unless you plan to turn a convertible into a twin turbo; as Nissan never made a TT 'vert, so you'd end up with a very rare and special car.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Switch similar to this?

Isn't that for the (optional on J-spec) front corner marker "aerial" - which extends the little mast from the front left-hand side of the bumper as a parking aid?

Well that switch pictured is from a S13 apparently, but it's close if not the same.

Yep it is for a parking Ariel next to the headlight. The 'parking granny' optional extra

I have done the NA to TT swap....... Takes time, luck in getting all the parts required cheaply, lots of research as mounting points for hard pipes to intercoolers aren't there, different radiator fitting points...

The TT ECU plugs into the NA loom, but there is a difference...https://z32.wikispaces.com/Fuel+Pump+Control+Unit

I bought a complete TT engine with turbo's and stripped it and fitted head gaskets and belt kit. I then got intercoolers, pipework, recirculation valves from a breaker. Transmission was the NA auto box that was in the car. ECU was from the breaker. I bought an aluminium radiator from ebay. Electronic boost controller was from ebay, boost gauge from ebay. An Oil cooler and pipework will also be required.

I had already done the brakes when I got the car.

It is a lot of work to do and will likely cost a lot for the parts and labour to do it....

If you know your way round an engine...... You can do it..... But it is NOT an easy task and takes research, good advice and friends with a TT 300zx to look at when you get stuck where things fit!

I Only did my conversion as I only wanted this Z..... I didn't want to buy a TT...... Just wanted to upgrade my Z.... If your not attached to your Z, then buy a TT..... it's easier and cheaper!

Just my 2p worth and thoughts......

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!
