What you can tell from that is pretty limited. Your best of making some test pieces, butt welds etc then observing the opposing side and cutting it in half to see how the weld penetrated. What made you decide to learn stick?

well i did some mig last year am wanted a my own mig last years then a nice arc came up form a friend last week so i just got that and some bits of metal and here we are.

From my experience arc welding is only really suitable for thick metal/box sections as it will melt straight through sheet metal.

Ahh ok, I thought you were learning to apply it to something.

well am sure i will at some point

indeed i uses mig on the sheet metal

It's a bit agricultural is stick. If you want to learn something then Tig is the one for fabrication work, needs clean surfaces though so not so much use on body work.

the welder i have does tig to but needs a lance am going to get a mig now yes the stick is good on heavy steel but form what ive seen you can do some nice work with stick

so moved on to joining metal stick welding it much harder than the mig but will keep practicing here are some joints form today

metal must be spotless Dan and steel that thick you need to turn the amps up a tad...looking a bit cold and not much penetration going on. Good flow though for a raw novice matey, what rods you using?? not the size which i persume are 2.5 but the coding at the end of box.
