My original stereo has decided to stop working, so Ive decided to fit a single din radio/cd in the top slot so will have a hole down below!!:excl: I know you can get a oem cubby hole from the Z Centre for £25 but was wondering if anyone had fitted something else from another vehicle be it Nissan or otherwise, perhaps that had a flap/hinged door on the front. Im sure I recall an X-Trail having an hinged cubby hole, but cant find one now.....

I had an old DIN pocket from when I previously replaced the stereo in an MR2, this didn't work as the screw holes on the pocket didn't line up with the zed brackets. On that basis I'd avoid a 'universal fit' pocket as there’s less chance of it lining up.

In the end I purchased one on eBay from the following seller:

This lined up perfectly with the zed brackets, although I had to source my own self tapping screws. No cover or ‘flap/hinged door’ but it’s much better than a hole in the dash!

Hope this helps!

The stero as far as I'm aware, was single din originally, you could opt for an extra speaker thing in the lower portion. So what what you need is just the stock basic arrangement. If I'm understanding you correctly.

I was checking to see if people had fitted something other than the £25 offering from the Z Centre, and if someone had found one with a closure flap then even better.

BambooJoe found a much cheaper standard cubby hole which I shall probably end up purchasing.

Could be two units as in Euro/UK spec cars:

Every 90’s Japanese car I’ve come across has 2 DIN slots. Usually a cassette player & radio in one, and a CD player in the other. If you’re going to the trouble of fitting an aftermarket (and usually more modern) stereo, there’s not much point hanging onto whatever fills the other slot – unless you’re lucky enough to have a Bose setup, or something that wouldn’t look out of place next to a modern headunit.

Some years back i bought a really cool cubby hole. It had 2 draws, one for change and stuff and one with 2 fold out drinks holders.

It fitted perfectly, I was well chuffed with it , right up till i drove down hill and diet coke poored into my stereo. Obviously not designed for sloping din slots
