Hi guys, I got home from work this morning and switched off the cars ignition expecting the same beeping as normal. However I was surprised when the car just stopped running and no beeps?

I know the timer was working when I got to work and when I stopped to get some shopping on the way home, but now it's not working. All the lights are on as normal but no number in the display and as I said, no timer when ignition is switched off.

Anyone know why this would be happening? Where to start looking for faults etc? It seems strange that it has all the lights on but it's doing nothing...

Any help much appreciated.. It's a razo timer by the way..

Cheers

It might not be a bad thing tbh. Does your insurance know it's fitted? Many companies really don't like them. There a bit a gimmick really and achieve nothing that can't be achieved by simply staying off boost for a minute or so towards the end of your drive.

Is that so, I have one fitted and its a PITA! I just use the hand break to cancel it each time when I know the turbos have been off boost.

I use mine everytime I switch off regardless of boost. I prefer to know the oil in the turbos is not going to fry my turbos and there's no harm in waiting 60 seconds for the car to stop.

Chris, you do know that you can normally switch the timer on and off don't you?

Yeah, the fault comes when you park up and shut down a HOT engine. The interior of the turbo core is quite tight, where the housing is roasting the oil burns and eventually it all cokes up. If however you don't rag it and shut it off this won't occur. Just back off and drive gently, ie off boost for the last minute or two.

Having your engine run for a minute or two after you arrive does the same, except you will have lower oil pressure, so the oil cooler won't be active and you arnt gaining the benefit of air cooling from driving along. The idea of walking away from a running car seems daft to me. Kinda a rice modification. Think about it, how many road cars have them from factory? Electric pumps that continue to circulate coolant, yeah but not ones that make you engine run for a few minutes unattended.

I never leave my car running unattended, in fact my central locking and alarm won't operate whilst the timer is still counting down.

I just like to have it because that way I can't forget to run it for a minute or so. The timer makes no difference to the rpm when it's running, in fact I believe the rpm's drop when the timer is operating.

I'm just puzzled as to why the thing is all lit up Asia should be but it isn't working? Just seems a bit odd that it just stopped working all of a sudden. Figured it might have been a wiring fault or something..

I've got a Hks one in the workshop with the correct loom harness

When mine is counting down it flicks my sidelights on, so are these then get me home lights, certainly rice and couple that with leaving the radio/stereo on and then it shuts down and retracts the aerial.

It is gimmicky i grant you, my 'estate' is surrounded with traffic calming so always my last few minutes is very slow running - ideal really in a twisted way !!

To enable you to shut, lock and alarm up Paul whilst it's counting down, i cannot remember exactly but it involves putting some chunky one way diodes in one of your ignition barrel wires fyi.

After the comments from Stephen and doing some research I've decided to remove the timer. As all it does is keep the engine running it seems pointless to replace it when I can just sit In the car for a minute when parked and seeing as I have to wait for it to shut off before my central locking will work it won't make much of a difference to my life without it.

The question now is, how do I remove it safely without disturbing anything that it's wired to?

It's like the loom of concorde under there at the moment and I'd hate to pull a wire out that is going to cause me a headache to put right. By the looks of it, it has its own harness to connect it but it does also look like it's been chopped around under there a bit.

Anyone have any idea about how to go about removal?
