pissed off, heard back from flacon concerning my poorly zed and compression test showed the following

cylinder 1 = 105 psi

cylinder 2 = 64 psi

cylinder 3 = 52 psi

cylinder 4 = 12 psi

cylinder 5 = 15 psi

cylinder 6 = 75 psi

the cams have picked up as well apparantly. certainly a complete rebuild and also advised to get my new turbos checked.

this car is a fookin nightmare, i have already spent 6k in april.

i dont see the point of a rebuild as i just wont have the confidence in the car, but a new engine from nissan is 5683 quid.

i see that coutesy are cheaper, have anyone of you bought one from courtesy or know anyone who has. big problem will be waiting for the thing to arrive and having to send it back it its faulty i guess.

i might as well buy another zed!

comments and support welcome. one truely disallusioned zed owner.

cheers

Steve, that sounds like it had some serious oil starvation! TBH it sounds more like oil pump failure than lack of baffling in the sump. I think you should consider getting a second hand engine that is in known good working order. This won't be too easy but probably the cheaper of the alternatives. How do they mean get the turbos tested? Are they talking as if they have been starved of oil too? This would show up as excessive play in the shaft.

HTH a bit

CheerZ,

Andy

Andy,

yeh steve says there has been oil starvation, your right. he said i should get the turbos seals and bearings tested as he is certain that the turbos may have been starved. i will contact smithy as i boought the turbos from him and see what can be done.

I may go on the hunt ofr a new/second hand engine then.

steve

That sucks, im pretty sure you can get a new engine for less than that, courtesy sell them, but youll need to find someone to ship it for you, and that wont be to expensive if you sea freight ect.

a while back on this forum someone got an second ahnd engine from a company in or near Birmingham (sorry i forget who) the company rebuild second hand engines and give you a 1 year warrentee for around £2800 i believe, i will search some more for you in the morning.

Steve I would just like to ask............................

Iain,

car was working fine had done about 7k since the top end rebuild.

i took the car to rockingham speedway, and it was the racing round on the inner track that seemed to do it. several people seem to think that the oil pump gave up or had to scavange and hense lost oil pressure. thing is i never looked at the oil gauge (probably meaningless anyway) when things starting knocking.

cheers

Hi Steve,

My car has history of oil starve problems, from what I can gather they don't do that well round tracks!

I know that Nissan had these problems in testing the "Bullet Proof" V6 engine and claimed to have resolved the problem before the car went into production...Hmmmmm! Not what I believe IMHO!

Who's seen inside a VG30 sump pan then? Hands up.... come on.... ME ME ME :D There IS a fair amount of baffling in there tbh. Oil starvation isn't too common a problem in here really - nowhere near as common as PTUs, AIVs, even the MAS. This is an isolated case and I think it was more a question of oil pump failure rather than bad design on Nissans part. Of course, I could be wrong ;) The problem Nissan had when testing the car was found, then resolved. Just because oil starvation happened on testing doesn't mean it caused this problem ;)

The ONLY reason I have posted this is to stop people doubting using their zeds on track. I and probably most others on here have been to at least one track day and given the cars some serious abuse without problem.

CheerZ,

Andy

I had oil starvation lol, and the final cause was.... yes you all guessed correct.

BREATHER KIT that GPS was selling from Turbo Techniques ... and thats about it lol, Turbos also had oil starvation from that horrendious piece of shit.

Other than that these cars really dont suffer oil starvation problems.

timmy turbo,

well i will see if the pump has gone quite soon, they are still taking it all apart. should hear before crimbo. thing is i reckon the zed is great on long stretches of track, but take it round the inner track like i did in rockingham 7k rpm in 2nd gear round all the corners and it doesnt like it. be warned folks.

i will focus on tracks with sweeping bends and not trackes more suited to small cars.

cheers

Having said all that ill put a spanner in the works :D

when we were at the nurburgring we were taken around in a 300zx tt driven by this insane lady that is a professional bike rider living near the ring, she did well over 20 laps that day all flat out taxing us around the circuit (a real eye opener to say the least) the car behaved perfectly, and to top that she says she goes at least 3-4 times a month. So im not really sure that these cars dont like twisty circuits ect.

And further to that - how twisty was kemble??? That certainly WAS a small car circuit but not one of us had the slightest of problems all day ;) http://bagpuss.swan.ac.uk/dunk300zx/W_L_S/Kemble_Trackday.wmv

Watching this with interest now ;)
