Rolling along as I do for work I do occasionally find some cool stuff by accident. Today I found this;

So let the guessing commence...it's Motorsport related. Hellraiser is exempt as he already knows the answer.

It is indeed the historic Brooklands circuit. This random chunk of it is inter sliced with modern roads. The museum was a stones throw away.

I was only there a few weeks ago.

Well worth a wonder round if you get chance.

They also allow classics and modern classics to park on the inner grounds with prior arrangements.

There's only 1/4 mile of it left and it's got listed status

It's a shame it can't be restored to it's former glory.

I agree but once you see how much it's been butchered and built around you see how unworkable that is.

It's something that did cross my mind. Good place for a meet.

MB World use the track just after the banked section for their driving school days, we took my Son down there a few weeks back to have an hours lesson and i was blown away to see the banking section (still with concrete partially exposed from trees/ shrubbery etc) in such a state of repair and such an ignominious end to a historic part of Motorsport history.

That said MB World is fantastic and although i didn't visit it, I hear Brooklands Aviation museum is a great visit too!

I understand there is a funding program to get the remaining part of the circuit back to it's former glory, although it won't be used for racing...

I must admit I sat there for 5-10 minutes eating a sandwhich, thinking about the race cars with those old engines thundering their large displacement long stroke engines round the banking. Would of been a real sight in its day.

Would love to stand on that piece of history at night time when its all quite.

Oh god........ Gaz is having one of those moments....... lol

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

I think there's a Sainsburys opposite part of it. I drove past it not long ago actually and was like 'ah, that'll be what's left of Brooklands then'. Shame really.

That's it! Puts a smile on your face when you see it. I didn't even think twice as to what it was, I just knew. :D

I took these during my first visit a few years ago.

They're currently doing a massive investment in reintating the start/finish line.

Kinda looks like the average road here in Dorset. Tree lined, full of pot holes and on the wonk. A real patch work quilt of surfaces. There not pot holes dear taxpayer, they are reverse speed bumps.

There is still a reasonable chunk in the museum grounds too - it's a great place to visit. We did MB world and the Brooklands Museum for my birthday a few years back - awesome day out!! The emotional part for me, though, was the Concord Experience..... Well worth it though!

We should indeed look at Brooklands for a Southern meet; it's an ideal location and offers something for everyone:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
