Hi, I've just seen this wear on my rear p/s wheel!!!

Any advice on what I need to do to prevent this when I fit new tyres would be most welcomed.

How good is this hunter Hawkeye set up at quick fit?

You will need to fit top adjustable camber arm to sort that Chris as the Std arms don't allow any. So no point paying for alignment till you have them fitted.

There's adjustment on camber and tie at the rear on the stock set up with a TT. It's not a lot though, a mild drop can put you out the range of adjustment. (The lower you go the more camber becomes an issue. If only one is like this then I would suggest it's an alignment fail. Toe angle with kill a tyre faster than camber.

As Stephen says, the rear camber is adjustable using the eccentric bolts. You don't have excessive camber on that car so I think it's unlikely a camber issue causing that wear. I would take it to a reputable alignment company with a decent system like a Hunter and have it checked. Don't use the places that just hang a reflector over the rear wheels and laser from the front. I would also suggest a quick dig for the original alignment settings to take with you as alot of these systems don't have the car listed, or have incorrect figures stored.

 

How many mm of tread are remaining on the outer section? The tyres look fairly well worn, were they fitted when you purchased the car or have you had them fitted since?

Hi Joely, yep fitted when collected, so no idea of original settings. Will speak with quickfit to confirm its possible and they know what to do.

They have this hunter set up. Car is as original so hopefully will be Ok. What is the camber 0 at rear and 1 at front?

Very good bit of kit.

Its the operator that I would be wary of at Quickfit. Some are good....but not all.

Hmmm, been looking into this, perhaps a specialist set up center is the way to go.

Here's the specs from the Nissan Service Manual:

 

Unladen but with full fuel, radiator coolant, engine oil.

Spare tyre, jack, hand tools and mats in position.

 

Front Axle and Front Suspension:

Camber -1.35' to -0.05' degrees

Caster 9.00' - 10.30' degrees

Toe-in 0 - 2 (0 - 0.08) mm (inch)

Total Toe-in angle 0' - 11' degrees

Kingpin Inclination 12.10' - 13.40'

Front Wheel Turning Angle Inside/Outside 32 - 36 / 27 - 31 degrees

 

Rear Axle and Rear Suspension:

Camber -1.35' to -0.35' degrees

Toe-in 0 - 4 (0 - 0.16) mm (inch)

Total Toe-in angle 0' - 22' degrees

The stock adjuster set up should give enough adjustment on a stock car. Ultimately you will only find out when its on the ramp being measured.

I would check before you go that the adjusters are not not seized/broken/damaged.

Cheers Pete, just picked up 4 tyres and set a date for Wednesday at http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/about-blackboots.php for the 4 wheel alignment. My Zed seems to be quite well looked after before it was imported, and after speaking with Lee at LA Autos who has done a fair bit of aesthetic work on her recently, we are certain the adjusters will be fine, good point though. I confirmed with the company that there will be no hidden charges for repeat adjustment as some companies do and the team there seemed quite excited about me bringing in a 300zx, so fingers crossed all be well. Will let y'all know how it went....

I tell you what, if your alignment is really poor, a good alignment will be night and day. Mine was all over the place with underside poor offset wheels when I got it, after I had that done and switched to stock wheels it was a different car.

Yep, you were right Ian, the camber bolt is adjusted totally and could not get it spot on, chap adjusted the toe to compensate for now. Should have listened to you mate, anyhow here's a couple of photos of her on the ramp.
