I'm considering having a pair of standard snails recon'd and uprated, rather than shelling out for brand new ones - good idea or bad?

If a good idea, can anyone recommend a good place to have this done?

If a bad idea, may I ask why...?

Thanks :)

Jimmer told me he uses midland turbo for recons. I had a quote for something like £450 for standard ones with uprated seals and bearings from them

Just had a look at the quote again, that's with 360 deg bearings and step gap performance piston rings.

But if there's damage to the core(s) you may be looking at up to double that

There's a place in Darlington that has a good reputation for rebuilding turbos.

Turbo Solutions or something like that.
