Right, just been told that I have oil leaking from my steering rack boots, which I have been informed, means that it's leaking from the actual rack and not from the hoses, Is there anything I can do to fix this or do I need to buy a new/replacement one??

Thanks

It will be the rack end seals that have gone. Get a second hand rack and have that reconditioned and then swap them over. Never really encountered a Z32 with a worn rack, it's usually just the seals that pass oil.

Initially I would release the boots( cable ties or wire wraps ) and empty them of any fluid, then refit with cable ties and leave them a while, maybe check them again in a few weeks time, it might be a small leak just accumulated over time and if your not having to keep topping up the fluid regularly then would leave it be.

Are they hard to rebuild?? I've found rack end seals for €55, could I do it or is it a specialist job ??

I'll give that a go, thanks Jeff:thumbup1:

Worst case, get a spare rack when you see one up for sale (I might have a spare), clean it up, paint it and refit it if needed. A bit of a pain to change with the engine in as I remember). I would imagine the seals are actually a std cheap part if you can work out what they are

When I rebuilt my motor I removed the rack while the motor was out and bought a rebuild kit online and replaced all the seals. It was not hard at all allthough I am not sure how hard it is taking the rack out with the motor in situ.

Hi Pete, can let me know how much you want for it, the engine will be coming out to fit the new turbo's as soon as I get the 3" downpipes off Ash, probably the first or second week of June with any luck:thumbup:

I'll take a look as soon as I get home mate

Cheers for that:thumbup: You get that other stuff??

I thought rebuilding the rack was a pro only job due to tooling and DIY rebuilds were temporary at best in their ability.
