Hi Guys, I have a nice solid vibration at motorways speeds which seems to get worse from about 60mph upwards gradually getting worse the faster you go.

The car has recently had a new single piece prop shaft fitted along with a new gearbox mount both have made no difference.

There is no noticeable play in any of the wheels, the hicas joints and inner steering arms are also recent. The alloys and tyres are new with no balance issues. Despite all of this the vibration continues, it sounds like its coming from the NSR but very hard to tell.

I'm wondering if I've got a knackered driveshaft/both or a knackered diff?

My car was bought with racing seats, slammed coilovers and semi slick tyres so I know its had some hammer (all gone now!)

What do you guys think the most likely culprit will be? I can't see it being the wheel bearings, this is a proper noisy vibration rather than a whir.

Cheers...

if its from the rear ns swap the rear wheels round just to see if the issues changed sides. also did you have sprigot rings in the wheels of lack of them ?

This isn't a wheel issue mate. I bought new alloys and tyres had them balanced twice, spigot rings are correct and fitted. The vibration was also there on the original wheels.

should not be hard to find. do you have your old prop but that back on and see it it goes away

You could try turning the prop 180deg, ie unbolt from the rear diff, turn and rebolt up, may be a slight balance issue.

Are you sure you have the correct size spigot rings for the alloys, they are the plastic rings which sit inside the alloy to make up the difference from stock 66.1 to whatever the inner diameter of the alloy is

No guys, I've been through these parts and changed them trying to solve the vibration.

I'm wondering if anyone has had a diff causing a vibration or a (half shaft). Remember the speed is 60+

If a half shaft is gubbed then rotating the wheel 90° during alignment checks should show up as a difference.

If the car has a history being a track car it could have been in a shunt at some point.

There's no obvious accident damage. The shell and chassis are straight to the eye, underneath, front, back and under the boot trim.

I'm sure its had some aggressive runs though, wondering if the semi slicks and potential drag racing could have damaged them.

I've been scanning youtube and seen some videos of slightly untrue half shafts. You can see it if the car is run jacked up. I might have a look at this.

Get a dial gauge on the rear disks to see iff you have run out on the end of shafts...my moneys on the propshaft,do as Groover has said and turn it 180 degree to try.

situations like this i just run it up off the floor, any wobbles soon become visible.A Diff issue will drone usually, drop some oil out and take a look at it,the first part that comes out is the best tell tale as to the health of the component be it a gearbox or a diff.Check the rear cv joint on the prop also for excess movement

Im having the exact same problem checked all the obvious things mentioned. I will try run it while up on ramp to see any obvious signs, and try turning the shaft as said above or maybe leave the hole shaft in and have it checked and balanced. Im still running center bearing i have ordered a new one and Im putting new seals and bearings on side of the diff as had a small oil leak one side. Be interesting to see if you find the problem or if I do I will post it up here.
