Putting my rebuild on hold for a month and a bit as the work for my garage gets under way.

Working out costs and building regulations but plan is to take out approx. 130ft of hedge, replace that

with a nice new ranch board style fence then build a 22ft by 20ft zed garage at the back of the garden.

Trying to get it as wide as possible up to the fence but really would like to skip on the fence at the back

and just build the garage from breeze block unto the edge of the garden.

The back end of the garden only measures about 18ft but the hedges are nearly 5ft wide at the back so

we will be gaining another 5ft after they are gone.

Here's a nice pic from my camera so should be able to capture the build progress nicely.

Decision's decision's Lee but the refurbed one looks so much more brighter.

Just needs a few bulbs changing, for a £6k difference I'd take the cheaper one and get the mop bucket and paint brush out:thumbup:

Not even moved into the new garage yet and the work have decided to go larger.

Either this, which we take as is :

or this which is another 6k per year more, buts its just been refurbed and is spotless :

Do you want help with the rental costs? Or is your boss happy enough..

Not bad , i'm at work and being sneaky watching the progress.

Yes, you can watch them arrive on site, scratch their heads for a bit, get the measure out, have a brew then if it's a good day do a bit of work with perhaps nipping off site for 30mins, break for lunch then a bit more digging if you're lucky, then another brew, clean up for a good hour using your water and then go home, claiming that was a full day when they're home for 3pm .

Not to knock another builders work but do you not need a 6-8inch of type 1 stone for a base on teram which is all led on virgin ground (i.e. Top soil stripped) as slab will likely subside other wise. Sure there is a good reason for it but just looks like they have already set the concreting shuttering. Also recommend putting reinforcements mesh where ramp is going at minimum. Sure it's all under control as seems a fairly tidy site but just thought I would mention it.

I do not the laws regarding boundaries and it might show in my question.

Could you not of used the zed cave has the new boundary wall ?

I've remembered now so hence my EDIT : Iirc if you are within 2mts of a boundary you can go up to 2.5mts at the ridge under permitted development.

I did look into it but the garage is a set size without really an option for it to be bigger without alot of costs.

I did origianlly want a full 6m by 6m work unit built but the garden at the back is not square and i cant get a full 6m in.

So we opted for a 5m by 6m with a 1/2 border and then a smaller addon hut at the left side.

If we went for the full on border design i would have to gain more permissions each time i needed to work or treat the exterior.

Also we have a 2.4m height restriction and bringing the boundary in a bit at the back keeps us well under it.

Those concrete pumps are pretty cool (in a sad way!), especially when the arm is over the top of the house and the guy controlling it is round the back with a remote control panel moving it about
