Forthcoming project:

Considering replacing standard steering wheel with

an airbag one.

I know theres probably quite a lot to it - but it would be

worth it.

Anybody on here done this or know any info?

Cheers

Mark

I dont know if just changing the wheel is enough. They are set off by shock sensors placed around the car. You will need to install these sensors too but I dont know where to get them from. You will be probably talking a small fortune to get it done.

Stuart I think you will only have sensors at the front of the car,

you only want it going off in a frontal impact.

I`m going to try and get the wiring diagram for it to

give me a better idea.

Somebody must have done it - I cant be the first to want to do it.

Have you posted on TT.net? They may have more people who have done it.

looked on autodata - looks like theres the airbag, ecu & 1 crash sensor. you will also need the warning lamp in the dash.

You need to be VERY careful with this kind of job. An airbag going off because you hit a bump (perhaps while out of control) could make a bad situation a lot worse.

I'm sure it can be done but just make sure you fully understand every component of the system and how it should be mounted / set up.

If you go for it, it would make a good tech article.

Did the 99 OEM 300zx not have an airbag?

If it did i gather you could just purchase the entire unit from Nissan?
