This is probably the dumbest question asked but will any transmission or oil fluid leak when I take the starter motor out as the starter is at the bottom?

 

And to make 100% sure this is what I am removing isn't it?

Nope, nothing will leak. And yes, that's the starter ;)

How is so hard to get out?

 

I undid the easy bolts for the bracket at the bottom, but there is a bolt behind the exhaust for the guard, and looks like there is one higher up. Do people take the downpipes off to get it out.

I have an auto

I'm not sure how easy to get out on an auto, but it's heat shields and three bolts that hold it on.

Is that the cat heat shield in the pic, try dropping that off for a bit more room. Make sure battery's disconnected otherwise it'll be like bonfire night!!

No the cats are further back that that. and yes battery disconnected

Soo heat shield off, I only see one bolt. Please don't tell me there are bolts at the top

There is another bolt above the one you can see, the other side of the starter gear.

There are two main retaining bolts, m10 from memory. These are located at the 12 and 6 position. You also need to remove the electrical connections, please disconnect the battery first! Then it drops down. Should take you about 5 minutes. Leave the bottom one in finger tight, that way you can use one hand to take the weight and the other to remove the bolt. Stops it failing on your face which would hurt.

You need to start referring to the FSM Ali, it's got lots of information in there to help you do things right.

To lodge the driveshaft to undo the crank pulley bolt.

When I've changed cam belts on other cars, I've just put them in top gear with the handbrake on and undone the crank pulley bolt. Wouldn't this work on the zed?

Yes... But not an automatic unfortunately

It's a bit of a bodge, but I undid mine using the starter.. Long

Bar on the crank bolt wedged again the chassis , fuel pump relay out( so it doesn't start), the turned it over with the starter, I'm sure I'll be told off for suggesting it, but it's how I'll be undoing mine tomorrow...

I'll be back at it tomorrow, remove those two bolts and hopefully take off the crank pulley without the need for a pulley removal tool
