Just discovered that my Z has a coolant leak on the front of the engine, the second pipe below the radiator inlet(I think its an inlet?) pipe.

It only starts to leak when the engine has run for a minute but then gets bad.

After looking it appears the previous owner has put some grunge all around the pipe to stop it..

Does anyone know what this pipe connects to? and if its expensive job :(

Thanks

Completely agree. Do it right.. once!

Just out of curiosity, was it actually silicone? I've never used radweld or anything like that, but I presume it sets when in contact with air and then sets?

Yeah. I think it was a silicone paste thing. I can't be 100% sure but I think so.

It looks like LSX or something similar, silicone rubber compound. Great for heating systems etc but not required for this. They probably fitted it dirty, left all the Ali oxide and crust on and wondered why it leaked, then gobbed that on to stop it, probably worked for a bit. Don't forget to test it with a hot engine, at full temp there's more pressure.

Spot on !!
