The Bandit (Burt Reynolds) drives a black and gold 77 Pontiac Firebird in the second film it's a 79. So the black and gold has become the "bandit colours" a bit like the general lee being orange. So for it to be a bandit version it must be black and gold. If it's not black and gold it's just a trans am which is the higher spec version of a firebird.

You can't be a car fan unless you have seen the bandit or vanishing point. Proper car films better than the crappy fast and furious shit
