What's the most reliable and cost effective version of getting conzult or datascan? I need to keep costs down and I don't have a laptop. I have seen an android version of Datascan, is it any good? I just want it for maintenance and fault finding. Is it best to get a cheap laptop and use that? There is so much conflicting and confusion on here regarding this, that I can't figure out what's best.

Thanks

I have Data-scan myself, seems adequate for basic set up and fault finding.

To be honest, I think it is capable of a lot more, l just haven't delved very deep.

I run mine from a Dell experion lap top from a serial port.

Very happy with it myself.

I too started looking into this, and other software / cables on ebay, as I'll need to do diagnostics.

I found Datascan on ebay here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-DataScan-I-Diagnostic-Software-for-1989-2000-Nissan-Infiniti-Consult-Cars-/231833902292?hash=item35fa609cd4:g:kCQAAOSw5dNWsT17

Obviously then you need the cable - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Consult-2-II-14-Pin-DDL-OBD-USB-Interface-for-Nissan-with-FTDI-FT232R-Chip-/231244103208?refid=store&ssPageName=STORE:HTMLBUILDER:SIMPLEITEM

This doesn't obviously help if you're using your phone.

For the most cost effective route, I'd say ecutalk program as its free! But you'll need to buy a cable for any program that you use. I'd personally say to stay away from the ebay cables, I believe they're very hit or miss. The ecu talk cable is apparently very good (I don't have one). I have the old blatz cable from when I bought datascan years ago and also the proper conzult one.

And yes you'd need a laptop.

Well I was about to buy the lead that bird recommended, buy that Chinese one might be worth a punt for £20. Have you tried it with any other programs?

I think the Chinese ones are pants to be honest, very bitty miss. In fact, I've bought a couple in the past as I was trying to bluetooth them. 1 worked, 1 didn't, another that came was actually for obd2 cars. Useless. For £35 more, I think the ecu talk cable is a better choice personally. I guess if you buy from ebay with paypal, you can get your £20 back if it doesn't work right
