2016 Annual Club Meet and AGM - Coventry Transport Museum Sunday 17th July

The 300zx.co.uk annual club meet for 2016 has been organised, with a return to Coventry Transport Museum and Millenium Place.

For those that haven't been, the Museum is a great place to visit, and parking right outside on Millenium Place draws lots of attention and some great photo opportunities. Lexx did a fantastic job organising this location in 2014.

This year we will also be holding our AGM at the museum for subscribed members to attend.

In addition, we will be holding a general meeting where hopefully the REO's will be presenting their ideas for the 2017 annual club meet, where all members can vote for their preferred location, giving the REO a year to put all of the plans into place.

With this in mind, we have decided to nominate a local hotel as a central meeting point the day before, to set the format for following years where the annual meet could be anywhere in the country.

This will allow members that are travelling from afar to arrive the day before, meet up with other fellow members, have a nice social evening and meal, before arriving nice and fresh at the meeting venue the following morning after a short drive.

The nominated hotel this year is Premier Inn at Hinckley, which has an attached Brewers Fayre pub and restaurant, located next to a canal and marina. It is a 30 minute drive to the Museum on Sunday morning.

12 rooms are already reserved, 8 at £68 4 at £70, which are available on first come first served basis by contacting me on PM and sending the money via PayPal or bank transfer. I will need your full names, how many of you, and if you want a double, twin or family room.

Breakfast is not included in the price but can be paid for separately on arrival or in the morning.

Alternatively, you can contact the hotel yourself and make your own reservations, particularly if you want to stay extra nights.

The price increased from £68 to £70 automatically once a certain number of rooms were booked, and are likely to increase again at a certain threshold as more rooms are booked. But the hotel staff have no control over that as it is built into the booking system.

The direct line for the hotel is 01455 896920.

Rooms can be cancelled up to 1pm on the day, but I will be cancelling any unconfirmed or unpaid for rooms the week before that, when the menu choices are confirmed to the restaurant. If you have booked via me, then I will will refund any cancellations that are notified in time to cancel the booking.

The restaurant has a separate mezzanine area which has been reserved for a group meal on the Saturday evening for 30 people, but we can confirm the numbers at a later date, and can probably accommodate up to 50 people.

If anyone is local and wants to attend the meal, that will be fine, subject to the same food pre-booking details below.

We must provide the confirmed menu choices the week before, which we will then be committed to, whether you turn up or not.

So if you have ordered and cannot make it, we will end up having to pick up the bill, which is not ideal, so please only place your menu orders when you know for sure you are attending.

The new menu is published 17th March and a link will be added at that time and the opportunity to collect menu choices over the following weeks.

Please confirm on the thread whether you plan to attend the meet, whether you plan to stay at the nominated hotel, and whether you want to reserve a room through me or directly, or whether you just want to turn up for just the meet or the meal.

phutumsch....just me on the Sunday

Edited by phutumsch

Unfortunately I am not going to make it as I have to drive my daughter and her friend to Wales. Its even more of a pain that I have to drive right past the Museum to get there but they wont fit in the Zed!

If I am lucky I may be able to stop on the way to say hello at least.

Dunno if im just not seeing it on the thread, but what time can we arrive from, on the Sunday?

Dunno if im just not seeing it on the thread, but what time can we arrive from, on the Sunday?

I think its 10am Paul

Can I make a suggestion?

As a club at shows, in my experience we seem to just park the cars on the stand when we arrive and leave them without giving too much thought to the layout of the cars. At this show, what are the chances that we can form some kind of a parking plan to make the cars look more placed?

I appreciate this would not be an easy task and not something I'd want to take on myself(!) but if we can settle on a "formation" in advance and have 1 or 2 dedicated "marshalls", I think it could make them look much prettier collectively and provide great photo opportunities.

There doesn't have to be any order of who goes where, just guidance for whoever turns up first to whoever turns up next in an attempt to continue the chosen pattern and keep the positioning consistent.

Here is a satellite image of the area that we park, based on the expected turn out we could plan spacing and basic layout in advance?

Thanks for this Joel.....

.....And yes! I believe we have to have dedicated marshals as part of the museum's T&Cs - Lexx, Harby and JaiKai (IIRC) did exactly this at the 2014 Coventry show. I also think we had a plan back then, where the cars were arranged in crescent formats starting in a sweep from the side of the Museum entrance. Then again it might have been how the guys marshalled us in on the day...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yes Richard there was a plan i was also a marshall on the day and we decided the crescent formation followed the wall by the museum nicely because of the bench that runs along it so we echoed it in the cars further forward in the open space.

It did look good and and gave plenty of space for the public to walk through.

Ill be showing my face on sunday too :)

You bringing your tools?

Have to say very disappointed.... Was looking on the transport museums website, no mention of the 300zx's coming down next weekend, they mention the abbarth owners club but not us...

Maybe those of us there on Saturday should have a convoy round with megaphones in a top gear style publicity stunt....

It did indeed look good.

Here's my planning image from 2014 which I used to plan the parking (each marshall had a copy too).

Maybe it will help someone this year

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)

Bear in mind there have only been 30 odd cars on the list, we would only just complete the second row (starting on the outside)

Edited by Alic

Ah yes I remember now Although can we move them away from the wall a little more? I seem to recall it getting a bit close towards the edge where the ramp is. Using this line in the pavement would make an ideal marker to keep the curve uniform for the first row...

Why dont you get there first Joel, bring an airport "follow me " sign and we will all park according to your desire??

Job done.:thumbup1:
