I'm looking into getting a Momo autoshift knob with the release button on top and I will relocate the overdrive button.

I really would like this knob but it doesn't have a button to change gears. http://m.ebay.com/itm/MOMO-COMBAT-EV....c100408.m2460

I've read of people changing it by pressing down on the knob like many cars to change BUT are there any cons in the Z32 if I go this route and what's needed?

My questions are:

1. Does anyone here with an automatic have an aftermarket shifter knob and if so which brand? and post a pic please

2. Can I shorten the shaft by at least an inch? I like the shorten look? I don't want to cut it with guidance. I have a custom boot cover already by Redline for the 300zx.

Thanks!!!!

Anybody? After all these years no one has an aftermarket auto shift knob that's shortened, overdrive relocated, Momo or better knob, & with leather booth cover?

I've been modifying a shifter mech to take the Auto Knob off a MR2 which when i owned a couple i really liked, i'll get some pics later and post them.

Just bin the grannie box.

Nope... I've had manual ZXs before, Porsche 944turbo, GT, Triumph GT6, C5 Vette, plus I've had a dealer license and both and driven tons of sticks and I'm just kool with my autobox (I must admit the NA auto box is sluggish, I need that HKS ALC) plus 90% of autos are faster that manual drivers anyway... The fastest 3 Z32 TT in the states are auto-boxes anyway hmmmmm.

I'm getting ole I guess! I like the sporty grand touring effect now... Plus if I want to bang a manual I'll blast a few gears in my brother's custom modded to the gills Porsche 968.

Hi Buddy, its from the Mk2 MR2 a rev 3 i think, here's the assembly anyway.

I always liked the ergonomics of it in the MR2, it just feels better than the "T-bar" versions

I'll love to put the GTR knob on the Z..! But the shifter base is too wide. But he has a right up about shortening it.

Also the 2006-2009 M45 perforated knob looks great too!

received my perforated/smooth leather shift handle back from Greavous LeatherWheels.com and it looks great! I had him fill in where the overdrive label was to have even back. It's perf on the back facing the driver and smooth on the front. He used a little larger stitch to give it a great look! and the leather matches my black Napa leather redline.com custom auto zx boot cover.

Looks amazingly good as if it is an oem unit... I've compared both and I'm going to with his work over my Momo knob. Now the shortening of the shifter is about to happen.... Wish me luck

I really like what you’ve done here.

A little while ago I was trying to think of ways of doing this. I don’t see why I should suffer a horrible plastic slide or excessively long shifter, just because the car is an automatic.

Is that a standard Zed handle that’s been covered?

Yes it is and I actually like it a little better than the Momo(for today LOL) shifter knob... It's really nice and the quality is top notch!!! Kudos to leatherwheels.com and he's a Z32 owner!

Also the redline shift boot cover is nice as well..

Hey, did you decide to get it covered?! If not why NOT...?!

Haven’t done it yet. Mainly due to a lack of time, money and effort on my part. I have an ever-increasing list of jobs I want to do to the car and the gear stick is rather low down as far as priorities are concerned.

My car is fitted with the optional ‘Navan’ gear shift so I’d need to source a standard gear knob before I look at customising anything…

I would leave the navan one in mate its nice gear shift

I didn’t think much of it at first, although it has grown on me.

I still think a shorter gear knob with a leather ‘boot’ would look much nicer. Although I would certainly keep the Navan in case I decided to switch back to it later.

Whew, I feel you on the work load!

Z1 has plenty of gear knobs... Contact Joel and tell him Thomas sent you from Miss. Also Chris "Greavas" from LeatherWheels.com & 300zxclub.com will do a custom knob oem superior for you $45-60 plus he has boot covers too!!! Redlinegoods does great work too they did me boot cover in Napa leather and it was better than anything factory plus he'll probably do my steering wheel soon. He has locations world wide..! Tell the Thomas The Ikon sent you...

So take about $150 - 175 and all of these items can be on your door step ready to be in your Z..!
