Hi, when converting to manual from auto, what do I need to do to change the timing , I understand that an auto will run at 20 degrees not the required 15 if I don't modify the wiring ,

Of course I may be dreaming all this !

Can anyone help ?

Connect the Neutral switch and it will work correctly, failing that earth pin 44 on the ecu.

Jeff

Test both the neutral and reverse switch before installing. Both mine were shot:

Same here, replacements are cheap and easier done with the cogbox on the bench.

er , even more stooped question whats the neutral switch, where is it , and how is it connected

Cheers, manual conversion taking place in two weeks. Only driven auto zeds, so it better be worth it ;)

On the side of the gearbox, there are 2 switches, reverse and neutral, the neutral switch goes closed circuit when the selector is in the neutral position, this can be connected to pin 44 on the engine ecu and a ground point on the chassis to effectively ground pin 44 when in neutral.

It will, if done correctly :thumbup1:

I plan on following the guide in the faq section, if you've any extra tips to help, I'd be grateful.

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread, sayers. :(

It just makes the ecu think the cars in gear and adjusts timing, it will be fine.

what happens if I permanently ground pin 44 on the ECU

It's only when checking/adjusting base timing this needs to be considered.

It's a pretty straight forward job (on a ramp anyway) just ensure you have all the parts ready and it's a no brainer.

I'm doing it on some homemade stands I made, don't worry though over engineered them. They hold the car at least 20" off the ground.

The actual changing to manual but is easy, remove auto, fit manual. It's the time consuming faff around it and installing the clutch pedal that will annoy you.

Yeah, I've read up at much as I can. Sounds like removing the auto pilot bushing can be a bit of a pain as well.

Just take care, both boxes are VERY heavy!

Slide hammer with a hook on the end, insert into bush, tap a chisel down the side behind the hook to wedge it in and pull it out, works first time :thumbup1:

Cheers, I've seen that method mentioned on various threads. I've also seen a way of pulling it out with threaded rod. I'm sure I'll be on here soon with a new thread asking for advice ;)

U got all the bits yet? I can pm you my number if you get stuck.

I believe so, markderbys supplying the conversion, plus rear oil seal, Spigot bush? and clutch line. He's assured me that he's supplying a full conversion, so other that fluids I should be good.
