Anyone who was at JAE last year can't have missed the fact that Fran and I arrived with our two dogs in tow. They were, for the most part, supremely well-behaved and they certainly ate better than we did  They're both absolutely lovely dogs, each with their own distinct personality. :)

Fran loves dogs. She properly genuinely is what people call "a dog person," and so am I. I've had dogs all my life and would honestly never consider living without one.

They can, of course, be extremely limiting, especially if you want to go on holiday or for a cheeky weekend away. We wouldn't entertain the idea of putting them in kennels - been there done that and suffered the consequences - so it falls to asking her family to look after them.

This is just with two dogs. So why, in the name of God, does she want to go and get another dog...??!

Specifically, this one: Dogs Trust link

Thoughts, please. :thumbup1:

He is cute lol, but having a lab ourselves and dont get me wrong, she is the most docile adorable lab you could hope for, but im sick of dog crap in the garden ruining the grass, the dog hairs in the house and dog smell generally if shes been in all day. She is getting on now at 11 years old and we have both agree that when she goes, there will be no more dogs.

We are lucky that my other half's sister has a dog and looks after ours when we go away and in the summer the dog is happy being in the garden all day long, its the winter that bugs me, she rolls around the mud like a pig in shit and then walks it into the kitchen into her bed and it just winds me up lol

Good luck with your new addition and as much as i like dogs, i wouldnt have another, we already have 3 cats too , they all drive me mad, in and out at different times and scratching on the door to come in, ive done my time

I think part of her reasoning is that I'm at home all day, every day... I suspect she forgets that I don't just sit around watching Top Gear though. I currently walk both of ours every morning so she doesn't have to rush around before work, but I can't see me successfully doing that with three hounds!

It's all pie in the sky at the moment, and I'll make sure I get any deciding vote... I just think she's crackers...!

I did indeed, mate. Sounds like your missus and mine would get on perfectly...! :thumbup1:

The problem you might have Si, is with your own dogs, we were taking in a gorgeous Cavalier King Charles (the first house dog we'd bought together) puppy that was up for adoption, the owners loved both us and our house and garden and said we'd be perfect. However our two Cocker Spaniels went Apeshit and attacked the poor puppy. We had to refuse on the grounds that the dogs were not going to accept the pup and it wouldn't be fair. To be honest, the Cockers are lovely pets but the mess they make of the garden, especially in Winter is very time consuming to put right. The garden is at present like a dirtbike course with tracks everywhere!1

I don't imagine there'd be any issues from our existing dogs - Marley (the GSD / Collie cross) is a proper wuss, although he doesn't seem too keen on Huskies for some reason... and Rocco (the Labrador / Whippet cross) will stand his ground against anyone and anything, but he just wants to be loved and secure. Awww.

They're both rescue dogs and both very friendly with other dogs (except Huskies), as we have her parents' Dalmation bitch here every so often and it just descends into comical carnage!

Honestly, my concern would be with the new dog, and not because it's a GSD or anything like that. When we got Rocco (we already had Marley), he'd come from a really poor background and all he wanted to do was bond with Fran. Nothing wrong with that, except he wasn't keen on me or Marley going near her... Marley especially saw some teeth in the first few days!

Marley's nature is that of a pushover though, so Rocco got what he wanted and there was no bloodshed involved. But what if the new boy wants to bond with her...? Rocco wouldn't just let himself be pushed aside... could be trouble....

I think it's a nice idea but the actual logistics of having three dogs is more than likely going to stop this going any further. I just thought I'd find out what people thought. :)

Oh, Andy and Dean: those pictures are to die for!!!!

We have two rescue dogs and that's plenty. Plus being rescue dogs you never know how they were treated in their past life and its hard to teach an old dog new tricks. One of our dogs is very timed and scared of its own shadow the other would turn on you very quick and you could never trust him. But we love them both and June would have the house full of dogs but two is plenty.

I have 3 in my house. It is a real pain to go on holidays because most places will only accept 2 dogs, and if we have to leave them at home, no one wants to look after and walk 3 dogs!

Walking and feeding them is not too bad but in the mornings they like to all have a go at each other when running outside and just start barking constantly.

So probably best to stick with 2 unless you *love* dogs, which you have expressed your interest that enough is enough.
