Ok guys, probably should of started this last year when I decided to resurrect my 1993 JDM 300zx Twin Turbo Auto. I said I call the car "Blue Thunder" (mostly just to annoy everyone:tt2:) as it will be loud and blue:thumbup:.

You'll have to bear with me as I'm going to use previous posts off this forum for most of the current bits and I'm not "computer super proficient" with adding images etc

I'll start at the very beginning if I can remember back that far:lol: (No pics in this quick update) (This is for the benefit of anyone joining after '09)

Bought the car in the summer of 2005, a low mileage (42K) 1993 300zx TT auto, within a few months the timing belt had stripped some teeth, luckily no engine damage. Replaced belts, series 2 PTU and bought my 19" TSW Catalunyas. Had to get the rear wheels custom made to 9.5" as they weren't available in this size:thumbup1:. Went on to buy a Pioneer Avic X1R single DIN touchscreen Sat-Nav stereo to liven up the sounds and my Brembo Big Brake kit.

July 2006 - Engine had a ticking noise, nothing major, diagnosed as sticky lifters, recommended solution was an oil change. Bought 2 4.5 litres of Castrol Edge 10W60, oil filter and an engine flush, brought it to a "garage" and asked them to drop the oil, using the engine flush, refill with the fresh Castrol oil heat it up, flush it out, fit the new filter and refill with the other container of Castrol Edge...Simples:innocent:

Collected the car and went home, got to the house and the engine turned into a tractor, lifted the bonnet, oil everywhere, they'd put the full 9 liters into the car and wrecked the engine.:scared::thumbdown: After a few arguments and the backing of the Motor Factors owner where the oil was bought, the "Garage" eventually admitted responsibility. They sent the car to another "Garage" who was fitting the new engine from API, more drama, Radio was stolen in their care and engine lasted a day, oil sump had been damaged and suction pipe couldn't get enough oil in, another knackered engine:scared::thumbdown:.

2007 - Sued the "Garage" and got the car back 2008.:thumbup1:

2008 - 2009 Went to a decent bloke who sorted the engine, did the manual conversion, fitted a brand new Exedy street performance clutch with an RPS Lightweight Flywheel, BuddyClub Racing Spec Coilovers, Z1 hardpipes and HKS Induction kit. November '09 Hydrolocked the engine driving into a puddle:scared::thumbdown:

2010 - After getting "Ripped off" on a Border Fuel Rail, 555 injectors and Japanese "UK" Clocks (meant to be UK but had been converted) and with a 9% pay deduction and extra Levies / charges on Civil Servants (totalling a 60% deduction of my already diminished gross pay), I called it a day on the Z:thumbdown:

What's the issue with the fixing, Rich?

The bolt wasn't there to begin with so I went to put in the one provided in the kit put it's not screwing into anything and then falls out. The hole must be threaded, could I get my mechanic to tap it?? The bonnet is pivoting when it's being closed which is going to bend the corner or pull out the other bolt

Many thanks Richie for adding my winfactory struts to your order and dealing with it - i am very grateful.

Seeing your 'issues' fitting them i thought i'd post my pics here.

They could stamp them up R and L i agree but i found a 'poor' video of theirs but i got what i needed from it so i fit first time of asking.

Running the same size tap through may be enough to get the bolt in, though doesn't really sound like it if it's falling out after going in. I would try a helicoil or drill it out and tap to a bigger size

You may need to drill a bigger hole in the bracket depends on size and get some bigger hardware to accommodate the bigger tap but that's what I'd Go for

This is a better video for the bonnet struts, methinks the LHD cars have it a little more difficult than us on the L/H side, i didn't feel the need for spacers there.

I too noticed the flexing if you treat it rough, suppose i could put a further nut/bolt in higher up but it's not bothering me greatly, my brackets are the later ones than the ones in this particular video fyi.

Been busy enough the last couple of days, got myself a threaded plug to fix my dilemma with the bonnet hinge, slots in and you then pull it back and it crushes against the inside of the hole:thumbup1:

Ripped/burnt out the diff bushes and installed my new Energy Suspension ones, went for black to contrast against the red, tidied up the subframe with another nice layer of red:thumbup:

Fitted my brake brackets to the rear hubs in preparation for my freshly powdercoated calipers (not ready yet) and organised all the fittings into seperate labelled bags.

Shut up and show us the pics!

You need to give me a little more time buddy, I type it up on the computer and then edit it to add the pics from the iPhone :tt2:

Another packet arrived containing the Brembo decals and stainless steel bleed valves for mine and another set of Evo calipers that are being done also:thumbup:

Fitted my Winfactory bonnet struts, they could have marked which bracket went where instead of trial and error, more issues, as my car didn't have a bolt on the bottom passenger side bracket, I was happy to fit the new Winfactory bolts only to find that the reason there was no bolt is due to the fact that it just falls back out, must be threaded. This is means that the struts are putting too much pressure on the bottom corner of the bonnet, can I do anything to rectify this??

You could drill the bracket hole slightly bigger and then tap the bonnet hole and fit a corresponding bolt.

EDIT Oh, old post my bad.

Cut the dust guards to allow for bigger rear calipers

Cheers matey, I followed the instructions also but I just thought it didn't look right:yes: I'd heard stories of how hard it is to refit the diff to the subframe but mine bolted straight in. I put it together while grilling chicken fillets on the BBQ, thought I must've done something wrong for it to take only 10 mins:thumbup:

Took me a couple of days but i have finally caught up with this thread. Good read. A lot of ups and downs and can't imagine how much this has cost. Well done for sticking with it and its a great car. Nice work

Put the boot into the Powdercoaters on Saturday, so should have my newly painted calipers sometime this week:thumbup:

For a Z23 lol. Take it these don't fit our normal brakes

Ha! I found that amusing too Lee, no, they won't fit z32 calipers:biggrin: the pads are bigger than a 500ml can and way bigger than regular calipers:whistling: They will fit my upgraded Brembos and the R35 GTR calipers. I can't wait to get my calipers back and start rebuilding them, hopefully ready to fit by next weekend

What brembos do you have mate?

Eh nut much, some Datsun company makes some kind of sports car called a 'GTR'.

They're Jeep SRT8 Brembo's bud, the pads fit the R35 also:thumbup1:

Quick pic from earlier to give you an idea of size

The top is the SRT8, the middle is Evo8 and the bottom is for the rear:yes:

Fitted to a Zed

I'm not going for acid green though (Funkysi would have a heart attack:laugh:) I think they'll look well in red behind the Veilsides:thumbup:
