Ok guys, probably should of started this last year when I decided to resurrect my 1993 JDM 300zx Twin Turbo Auto. I said I call the car "Blue Thunder" (mostly just to annoy everyone:tt2:) as it will be loud and blue:thumbup:.

You'll have to bear with me as I'm going to use previous posts off this forum for most of the current bits and I'm not "computer super proficient" with adding images etc

I'll start at the very beginning if I can remember back that far:lol: (No pics in this quick update) (This is for the benefit of anyone joining after '09)

Bought the car in the summer of 2005, a low mileage (42K) 1993 300zx TT auto, within a few months the timing belt had stripped some teeth, luckily no engine damage. Replaced belts, series 2 PTU and bought my 19" TSW Catalunyas. Had to get the rear wheels custom made to 9.5" as they weren't available in this size:thumbup1:. Went on to buy a Pioneer Avic X1R single DIN touchscreen Sat-Nav stereo to liven up the sounds and my Brembo Big Brake kit.

July 2006 - Engine had a ticking noise, nothing major, diagnosed as sticky lifters, recommended solution was an oil change. Bought 2 4.5 litres of Castrol Edge 10W60, oil filter and an engine flush, brought it to a "garage" and asked them to drop the oil, using the engine flush, refill with the fresh Castrol oil heat it up, flush it out, fit the new filter and refill with the other container of Castrol Edge...Simples:innocent:

Collected the car and went home, got to the house and the engine turned into a tractor, lifted the bonnet, oil everywhere, they'd put the full 9 liters into the car and wrecked the engine.:scared::thumbdown: After a few arguments and the backing of the Motor Factors owner where the oil was bought, the "Garage" eventually admitted responsibility. They sent the car to another "Garage" who was fitting the new engine from API, more drama, Radio was stolen in their care and engine lasted a day, oil sump had been damaged and suction pipe couldn't get enough oil in, another knackered engine:scared::thumbdown:.

2007 - Sued the "Garage" and got the car back 2008.:thumbup1:

2008 - 2009 Went to a decent bloke who sorted the engine, did the manual conversion, fitted a brand new Exedy street performance clutch with an RPS Lightweight Flywheel, BuddyClub Racing Spec Coilovers, Z1 hardpipes and HKS Induction kit. November '09 Hydrolocked the engine driving into a puddle:scared::thumbdown:

2010 - After getting "Ripped off" on a Border Fuel Rail, 555 injectors and Japanese "UK" Clocks (meant to be UK but had been converted) and with a 9% pay deduction and extra Levies / charges on Civil Servants (totalling a 60% deduction of my already diminished gross pay), I called it a day on the Z:thumbdown:

Rear subframe fully fitted up, just need to touch up some of the paint

Fitted up some adjustable rear upper camber arms

Will be going down to the garage in a couple of weeks for fitting:punk:

Can't make head nor tail of it mate, he was taking both sides of the calipers into account ? I couldn't see how to put in 6 Pistons for the fronts?

Did you read calculator notes?

"Note: multi piston calipers express their values using one HALF of the caliper body. This accounts for the floating aspect of the single piston caliper.

A six pot caliper would be 1.625/1.125/1.125" for example."

Everything? Will we be seeing you blackening some back roads soon? :o

Nope:tt2: Won't be taxing it for the winter, Getting the AMS manifolds, GT525 turbos, 3" downpipes/exhaust, Rear NA subframe, Front Steering rack, brakes, Fuca's / Ruca's and maybe the wheels fitted, binning the Hicas. Do a boost leak test to check it's all leak free, fit the Selin Dual Intake. Then I'll have to get it mapped over the winter and get the bodyparts painted and fitted. Being out sick for the last 3 months has set me back both financially and physically. Hoping to be back to work in the next 3 weeks:clap:

Hope this is what I need to hear and if so is of use to anyone thinking about these upgrades:yes:

Rich,

This is amazing information. Definitely something I will be referring back to when I get ready to get my rear bbk set. My brake bias is certainly out of wack right now. We should make it a sticky.

I wish you'd bite the bullet and join Facebook Rob, I only signed up last December and I've been able to sort out bits for the car that aren't necessarily common to the Z, the brakes for example, I'm in a group on

Facebook that actively seeks ways of fitting HUUGE calipers to our cars, they're working on AMG 8 Piston and R35 calipers / discs:thumbup: I had the wrong rear calipers for the Z32, mentioned it on the group page and sold them within a day to a Supra Tuner in Germany:clap: All that info is from Facebook groups, there's loads of Z32 groups on it:thumbup:

Just got a text from the garage to say that a flywheel never came in yesterday for Qashqai, so they won't be able to do my car today:thumbdown: Thinking of going down there as I had planned and just doing something with it, maybe fit my front Brembos and test fit my wheels, I hate being let down, was looking forward to making some major progress over this weekend.

Went down to the garage an had a crack at installing the front brake discs and calipers

Had some trouble mounting up the wheels, got a loan of some 20mm hubcentric spacers and got the 19"s on but it's looking like I'm going to have to do something with the Veilsides. Not sure yet:innocent:

The Veilsides have a step in the barrel, I could maybe swap out the barrels for ones that are flat???

Here's a pic

image.jpg

If I could get a flat barrel and swap out the original with the bulge / step as pictured above, I might still be able to use them, other than that, I'd have to sell them for a different style of wheel:thumbdown:::scared::thumbdown: I really need to make these work, any suggestions??

Sounds like you might have to choose between the wheels and the brakes, Richie...!! :(

Yeah, Going to do some research for the night :sweatdrop::sweatdrop:

Yeah, Going to do some research for the night :sweatdrop::sweatdrop:

Rich,

Brakes look very nice. Question, are those 14" disks? If yes, that was the same issue I had when I tried to fit the 14" AP racing BBK on my Z. The Veilside wheels were made by SSR and they tend to use a step barrel on the inside of their wheels, even today; however, Volk/Rays Engineering uses a barrel without an inside step and those fitted the 14" BBK on a 18" wheel. I had to settle for a 13.5" disk so that my Blitz (which wer also made by SSR back then) fitted the AP racing BBK.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Rob, I can also go for a step lip to 19"s, just need to see how much these options are gonna cost me, will hopefully be talking to my wheel guy this evening, think he's busy at the Irish Drift Championship this weekend:thumbup1:

If I were in your position I would try to find a barrel for the Veilsides without the step lip inside. I do not know how difficult that will be as that could also mean changing the offset on the Veilsides. It is all going to depend on what options are available for the Veilside centers. A good start for that research will be by counting the number of bolts on the center of the wheel and running a search online to see what options there are.

Rob

P.S. For everyone else looking to do a BBK upgrade on your Z please keep in mind your wheel setup, as some have an inside step lip and some do not. This inside step lip would mean that you can only fit up to a 13.5" size disk, where as a wheel without it would be able to fit up to a 14.25" disk.

Problem solved !! :tt2::whistling::innocent::thumbup:

My buddy Brendan is going to call over at some stage, see if we can get the 10 x 18 and 10.5 x 19 Volks Racing GT7's to fit, he'll also be looking to see which barrels will make the two front Veilsides work, I'm definitely rebarrelling the Veilsides, looking at roughly €200 a side plus whatever Bren wants to build them. The GT7's are a set he has lying around spare, i can pay them off over a few months:thumbup1:

What offsets do those have?

I think they're like a +1 and -1! He's not sure, we can test fit them and see. My brother got some 20mm spacers for tomorrow, if I fit these doesn't that bring my + 36 Veilside offset down to +16?? I'm going to need the spokes to clear the calipers by pushing the wheel out 20-30mm, so my offset would be +6 with a 30mm spacer??

If the Volks do in fact have a +1 and -1 offset, the is no way they will fit without changing the barrel.

Yes, you are correct, by fitting the 20mm spacers you will bring down the offset to +16mm on the Veilsides; however, this will also make the wheel stick out way past the fender line thus requiring a lot of stretch on the tire.

Are you referencing the Veilsides or the Volks here.

The Veilsides bud, that's the advantages of 3 piece wheels, I can change the lips and the barrels if need be to make them fit, going to cripple my finances for a while but it'll be worth it to have a nice set of wheels on the car:thumbup:

Any progress on your new wheels??
