Ok guys, probably should of started this last year when I decided to resurrect my 1993 JDM 300zx Twin Turbo Auto. I said I call the car "Blue Thunder" (mostly just to annoy everyone:tt2:) as it will be loud and blue:thumbup:.

You'll have to bear with me as I'm going to use previous posts off this forum for most of the current bits and I'm not "computer super proficient" with adding images etc

I'll start at the very beginning if I can remember back that far:lol: (No pics in this quick update) (This is for the benefit of anyone joining after '09)

Bought the car in the summer of 2005, a low mileage (42K) 1993 300zx TT auto, within a few months the timing belt had stripped some teeth, luckily no engine damage. Replaced belts, series 2 PTU and bought my 19" TSW Catalunyas. Had to get the rear wheels custom made to 9.5" as they weren't available in this size:thumbup1:. Went on to buy a Pioneer Avic X1R single DIN touchscreen Sat-Nav stereo to liven up the sounds and my Brembo Big Brake kit.

July 2006 - Engine had a ticking noise, nothing major, diagnosed as sticky lifters, recommended solution was an oil change. Bought 2 4.5 litres of Castrol Edge 10W60, oil filter and an engine flush, brought it to a "garage" and asked them to drop the oil, using the engine flush, refill with the fresh Castrol oil heat it up, flush it out, fit the new filter and refill with the other container of Castrol Edge...Simples:innocent:

Collected the car and went home, got to the house and the engine turned into a tractor, lifted the bonnet, oil everywhere, they'd put the full 9 liters into the car and wrecked the engine.:scared::thumbdown: After a few arguments and the backing of the Motor Factors owner where the oil was bought, the "Garage" eventually admitted responsibility. They sent the car to another "Garage" who was fitting the new engine from API, more drama, Radio was stolen in their care and engine lasted a day, oil sump had been damaged and suction pipe couldn't get enough oil in, another knackered engine:scared::thumbdown:.

2007 - Sued the "Garage" and got the car back 2008.:thumbup1:

2008 - 2009 Went to a decent bloke who sorted the engine, did the manual conversion, fitted a brand new Exedy street performance clutch with an RPS Lightweight Flywheel, BuddyClub Racing Spec Coilovers, Z1 hardpipes and HKS Induction kit. November '09 Hydrolocked the engine driving into a puddle:scared::thumbdown:

2010 - After getting "Ripped off" on a Border Fuel Rail, 555 injectors and Japanese "UK" Clocks (meant to be UK but had been converted) and with a 9% pay deduction and extra Levies / charges on Civil Servants (totalling a 60% deduction of my already diminished gross pay), I called it a day on the Z:thumbdown:

It... moves...!!!

Yay!

Had to be pushed but!! I've been reliably informed that it freewheeled very smoothly:thumbup:

I'm coming down to wash it :)

It's wrecking everyone's head about how clean it is!! I'm more concerned about if it'll ever drive again!!:scared::D, You have to push it up a slope to get it to the wash bay, I'd say the two lads were happy to let it roll down the slope to the lift:thumbup:

Engines out, all the bits are gathered together, most parts had only been sorted before the engine got flooded, only problem is a split accordion pipe, a water temp sensor, gaskets and bolts to be sourced for the exhaust system

Greddy Intercoolers and rebuilt manual turbos with 360 degree bearings plus 2.5" downpipes

Didn't realise I had updated poly engine mounts:thumbup:

Big thanks to Baz, who has sorted me out with a replacement accordion pipe:thumbup:

Make sure them bolts into the Greddys are sealed as they go into the open end tanks.

Thanks for the "Heads up" Joel, they're the ones that can be seen in the pics??

  • Author
Yes. If you remove them, you'll see that the threaded boss goes straight into the end tank. They're common causes of boost leaks so best to wet install them with a suitable sealant.

Thanks Joel, it's good to know these things before everything is back together:thumbup1:

Took a spin up to the Nissan garage today, they were having trouble finding the part no. for the coolant sensor (gauge), my one was a little wobbly on top, I found the part no. on Google... €50:scared:, I noticed a link under the part no. regarding using a punch to tighten up the connector, went home and gave it a go, just saved myself €50:biggrin:

Called up to the car, as I didn't want to lose the sensor and was met with the following sights..

The lads pushed the car out and power washed it and the engine bay, I think Gaz must have been onto them:thumbup:

Just to let you know, that's water out the old engine that's on the floor:scared::thumbdown:

Got back home and these were waiting for me:clap:

Big thanks to Dave (Carmad) for not only sorting out my 99 spec front splitter, but I had also mentioned about maybe needing door fillers for when I ordered my Kaminari skirts, he threw them in as a bonus!!

So "Cheers Dave" You are a true gentleman and a pleasure to deal with as always.

Plenum bypass and EGR delete completed:thumbup:

Impressed with the paintwork - doesn't even look like it needs a respray! Excited to see how this goes.

It does especially now there is no algae growing all over it!

Enjoying this Richie but I'm also jealous of your collected items, I so neeeeed those 99 spec rear lights, they would look loads better in my kitchen than yours!!!

Really good to see things are coming together, you must have your Zed mojo back now!:thumbup1:

It's good to see this moving on now, Richie... if only you had some nice interior goodies lined up as well... :whistling:

Thanks guys, Zed Mojo is well and truly back, trying to organise things to fall into place is the hard bit, 550 injectors fitted today, Wheels are being polished today, short the centre cap locking bolts, so getting those 12 next Saturday, 3" and 2.5" exhaust gaskets ordered today, should be here for Monday along with Baz's accordion pipe and Carbon fog light ducts, getting Stainless steel high tensile nuts and bolts with spring and regular washers for the exhaust system tomorrow, Cambelt change tomorrow, Wheels:hyper:

Yeah, as stated above it's hard trying to get all the pieces to fall into place in the right order:whistling: Think I'm getting there though, engine first, followed by exhaust, wheels, bumpers/exterior, brakes and finally interior:innocent:

See the way I look after you:tt2:, No panic yet Si:thumbup:

Baz's fat thumb with the carbon fog ducts and accordion pipe, messaged him on Facebook yesterday afternoon and he went to his lockup and grabbed them and had them booked for collection by 11pm last night. Another true gentleman I've had the pleasure of dealing with:thumbup1:
