Lexx Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Japfest have just announced dates for 2016......along with a new venue - Silverstone. I've attended Castle Combe numerous times and was always underwhelmed with what was on offer. Space always seemed to be at a premium. However, I have also attended a now defunct show called JTS at Silverstone which although it wasn't a huge event it was pretty well laid out and Silverstone was easier to get to and get into than Castle COmbe - especially in the wet! They're also offering camping this year. Something which was always missing at CC. Leading to the epic tailbacks early morning trying to get on site. Quote Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. Stephen Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 So japfest 1 will be at silverstone then japfest 2 at rockingham. Both in the East Midlands. Nice one. Was looking forward to getting out at castle Combe. Bad choice imo. Quote
GregT Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Damn it - The Combe is only a hour long drive away. Now I have to negotiate the A34 and Oxford.. Quote
(adl) phoenix Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Guess I'm not getting to drive round castle combe next year either... Personally think brands Hatch would have been a better alternative with Japanese 2 at rockingham Quote
Joely P Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I've been to Japfest at CC a few times over the years and always found it scored low on the distance to fun ratio! The main reason for that is probably because I have never utilised the track time available, but I have been to other track inspired events and enjoyed them. Maybe a new venue will improve things and as a bonus for me, it's not a huge trek to get there. Wherever it's held, unfortunately it will always be too far for some (possibly most) folk to drive. Maybe Japfest 2 will be further north this year to spread the audience more evenly? Not that that helps you southerners! Quote
coopd Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I'm aiming for this to be the first big event I attend next year as I've never been before. Silverstone is a trek for me as I'm a northerner but would be good to meet some of you southerners. It all just depends on when my car has finished having its makeover:) Quote
Lexx Posted December 1, 2015 Author Posted December 1, 2015 The south gets fecked again EH? ! You realise that the UK goes some distance further North than Birmingham right? Have you looked where Silverstone is on a map? Considerably closer to Bournemouth than it is to Newcastle. In fact it's almost twice the distance. Quote Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. hellraiser Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 (edited) There is no local shows with availible track time near the south coast. Edited December 1, 2015 by hellraiser Quote

Sir Charles Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Good. The further away from me the better haha ;) . Hated Japfest when I went before. Quote

Considerably closer to Bournemouth than it is to Newcastle. In fact it's almost twice the distance. I think the point is there both in the Midlands. Whilst the north goes a lot further than Birmingham the south goes along way further than Bristol. At least castle Combe serviced the West Country, M5 etc. Regardless having them both so near each other is pointless. If anything japfest 2 should have been moved further north. Quote
Joely P Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Maybe that's the whole point. They want to keep them both in the midlands to attract the largest possible audience for both events, but have one at the beginning of the show season and one in the middle/towards the end? Quote
arthur Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Silverstone looks pretty central? Don't forget the south Beaulieu jap meet! Quote
RichardS Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Interesting........ ......And whilst I'll not forget the huge queues and traffic chaos around CC - there's no guarantee that will not be repeated around Silverstone. However I suspect the new venue will be easier to enter and exit; it is, after all, home to the British GP etc. I might actually persuaded to attend in 2016.... Quote I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
