Google maps are giving me three routes to take from Birkenhead to Newark on trent. So is the M62 my best route? Plus is anyone else going this way on Saturday morning?

I personally would use the M6 and A50 towards M1. The A453 past Nottingham is now finished and the A46 out to Newark is a brilliant bit of road.

You can give it a few revs thru the Meir Tunnel in Stoke on this route too:yes:

Sounds good Pete :thumbup1: Thanks for the advice.

I'm going from Birkenhead Saturday morning Gary.

What time are you leaving Tom? We dock around 0630hrs so I could meet you somewhere if its possible.

Yeh sounds good mate. I live about 10mins away from where ur docking in Birko, will have a look at the best route tonight.

That would be the easiest route, although we'd get some good pictures driving through the Peak District.

Iff i was going lads ide take the cat and fiddle pass towards buxton and matlock...wont get a better drive than that

The best route looks like M62 & then the A1.

Looking at your map mate, I'd have said to drop SE onto the M60 towards Stockport and then continue on the more southern approach via Rotherham and Worksop down to the A1. It looks like it will knock a fair few miles off the journey - and bearing in mind, you'll be hitting the roads fairly early on a Saturday morning, traffic should not be too bad.

Just my thoughts - I'm not local to that area; I am simply looking at the shortest route....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Apparently that route is only 10 miles shorter plus it takes an extra half an hour, although it would be more scenic.

How long time wise is that route telling you Tom?

Ian what route are we thinking of taking on the Friday? We will hit some traffic at the time we are looking at leaving.

I was born in Creswell 5 miles from Worksop!

Fastest route is always Mways & A1 though as said M1 then across the A57.

Across the peaks is very picturesque if u want views & Shefield out east on the 616 to Newark is nice.

But it's a fair drive to Newark & some sacrifices might be needed!

Having been to Beaulieu & had such a fab weekend I might trip up to JAE.

Folkestone to Newark is 195 miles!

My Mother was born in a small miners village called Rhodesia just a few miles from Worksop Art and yes take a run up to JAE 195 miles is nothing mate I'm traveling about 350 miles from Belfast

Spent a weekend in Matlock Bath when I was 10 all I remember is steep hills a river and caves lol.

And it is still the same.

One of the most dramatic locations in Britain for a small town.

I spent the last two years of my working life working in Matlock itself so I passed through it on the way there n back.

Its been 45 years ago when I was there Pete and it feels like a dream now. Think I might take the scenic route home.

Hi Graham we are using M62 A1 route we would hit traffic on any of those routes to be honest but M6 on a Friday ......no thanks. Friday traffic on our route is a little easier.

Gary, if we meet in the Woodside ferry terminal car park, about half 7? Then we'll head through the tunnel to liverpool & the m62.
