I'm aware Aem is a well established brand so prob my first choice but then there's Devilsown which I've not heard of before and snow performance only available in the USA.

Always wanted this kit installed. Looks Ike I'd need two injectors one for each side, anyone know where the best place to fit them would be? Maybe just before the throttle bodies or just after the IC's??

While you lot were twiddling your fingers I went ahead and bought the Aem system just in case anyone cares...

Here's a video explaining what it is, in a silly American kinda way.

What intercoolers you got?

Godspeed with bumper modified for proper ducting.

I've looked into water injection for my old Volvo and I've heard of all three systems you mention, but I've got no experience with them. It's a great way of making more power, I can't believe how little it's used over here.

You'll definitely need it mapping to get the benefit. You can run a lot more ignition advance for a given boost level. No doubt you probably know all this!

Yeah no doubt, i want it mainly for the fact it will make things run safer and cooler especially as I tend to lose a lot from heat soak so should make a big difference even before the map.

Just watched a YouTube vid of a Nissan 200sx on a dyno which made 350bhp from 300bhp that's a massive percentage rise just from the water injection.

what state of tune is your engine in so far ?

  • Author

555injectors

Gt25r turbos

Ams manifolds

Z1 downpipes into straight through 3inch exhaust

Godspeed IC's

Q45 Maf

Forged rebuild

Thicker head gasket

That's all I can remember at the moment.

I'm adding a selin dual intake setup soon and having it mapped again.

what power is it putting out ?

Last time I had it on the dyno some 4 years ago it was 470bhp at 21psi. What you thinking Dan?

Thanks, nice read. It's funny, I've already done the arch lining louvres mod and the radiator bottle mod also

It's common to use a water menthol mix, it offers even greater knock resistance than straight water with the potential for more power.

I wonder which would net better gains per buck. 2.5" intercooler piping and dual maf or water injection? Your still on the stock intercooler piping right? Also how they would affect the power curve, an extra 50hp that arrives in the last 2-300rpm of the Rev band is next to useless, where as 40hp gained at 3krpm or lower would be more useable.

Equally, I think it's a wise move to think from a safety aspect. Meth injection cools charge temps and allows more timing and boost in lamens terms, yeah? So if a pump failed or you ran/leaned out of fluid the damage could be pretty severe? A bit like pushing the envelope on old injectors and connections. There isn't much to fail with increased induction cooling, a hose could pop off but that's true in stock configuration.

I'm no expert but I'm just supposing if you were to weigh up the pros and cons between the two, roughly similar money. Which would give you more useable and sensible power enhancement. Did you say you've got gt525s? Ie a T28 core with machined T25 cores? Aren't they known for heating up charge temps as they are excessively restricted by the small housings made to fit a larger core?

I might be talking rubbish here but if your talking about improving the setup you have maybe other options could/would have benefited you greater? It's interesting stuff regardless.

No, gt25r not sure if they are the same thing anyway.

I have taken into consideration something on the water injection system failing and I would map the car without the water injection then turn it on after just as a cooling/cleaning aid. BUT there is a fail safe system that can be added which I'm still looking into which would make me feel more comfortable mapping the car with it enabled.

Knowing what im like I will probably fit 2.5" ic piping eventually anyway and dual intake is next on my list, so id have both of best worlds plus I really like my gadgets, more for me to fiddle with. Anyway When does modding ever stop? Just because I'm fitting one thing doesn't mean I'm stopping there or limiting it to just that.

i was just thinking at the state of tune your at now does it make more sense to do other mods first. seems the water injection is like a temp boost up just like noz would you not want a mod thats knd of functioning all the time, would think this water injection is like a last mod when you have no were else to go and for say drag strip like max power and used for litle running if youwas on it every day you would be filling it up all the time.

Sounds like a roller bearing turbo? Gt2554r maybe, z1 calls them gt535r.

Was bouncing questions/ideas off you more than anything else. What you spend your money on helps me to see what's worth me spending mine on haha. Not enough tuned cars over here.

I think in most cases, a car will make less power when running water injection, when compared to the same car running without it. The water actually takes up some of the volume in the cylinder that would have been available for air and fuel. The benefit comes from it allowing a more aggressive map and more boost.

How about this mate.

Subaru/Evo style intercooler water spray. You can make it up yourself, as a gadget man you can have 2 temperature readings, one before and after the intercooler, then a big button between the gauges for the spray. Press it and watch the Intake temperature drop.

It is something I would like to do one day. If I knew how to I would like to use a Raspberry Pi to rig up a load of different sensors for that sort of thing.

Guess what, I was close to fitting intake temp gauges but someone on here talked me out of it as usual. Yeah I'm aware of the ic sprays, car defo feels faster when it's raining.

I'm doing other mods all around the same time, thing is with me I get things done I don't go on about them for months and months or years as it seems some people do. If it's successful happy days if not I try something else, in conclusion it's what I love doing and find enjoyment out of. Hell when I first bought the thing I hoped the engine would blow up so I'd have an excuse to build a forged engine and guess what, I did. There's a thread here somewhere from about 6 years ago of me going on about it. I might have a little search, good ok days.

lol guinea pig over here eh?

What you had done to yours stephen?

 pretty much lol.

So far;

Rebuilt the entire suspension system with poly bushes and solid mounts. Adjustable arms, It's only the lower arms now that are stock.

Full deleted engine bay, no air con, PCV, Aiv , water bypass etc etc.

Upgraded oil cooler and radiator.

2.5 exhaust from the turbo elbow back, divorced down pipes, Decats.

Evo brembo upgrade, stainless braided lines and all vented drilled and slotted discs.

Just waiting now to get a few miles on the block, only installed it a few months back, done about 100 miles. Then I'm going to test it, if it's good I've already discussed a chip and MBC with Noel.

I've got more stuff in the pipeline, but I change my mind constantly about the particular path to take.

Nice, you're getting there, I've done all those bits too and I've got The Driftworks lower arms, so there hah. Makes changing wheel offsets a doddle. If I was to write up a list it would be ridiculous.

its good your trying things i get you i like modding and messing about with cars just a hobby so i feel what your saying, up date us with pics and info as you go along with it. i wanted to fit co2 intercooler spray at some point i prob dont need it but just wanted it
