There is a 2 day meet at York Raceway on Jul 4th /5th with RWYB time available on both days.

I thought I might go on the Saturday for a few runs.

It is the same weekend as Jap Show at Santa Pod but TBH I am tired of spending all day at shows like that to only get 3/4 runs.

York will not be as busy and RWYB people are well catered for at York.

I know its not what most members do with their cars but you are welcome to join me.

The launch surface is good for road cars/tyres so it would be an ideal weekend for any "first timers" to give it a go.

Im always up for offering help and advice if needed.

I decided Sunday was a better day weatherwise to go..............................so I did.

No other 300s of course but no matter a good day out.

The car was running well but was let down by the driver initially.

First run I ran a red light... my first for a very long time.:whistling:

Second run I didnt grab 2nd gear in time so the Emerald started to cut .

Third run I didnt get the front brakes fully locked on for burnout so I slipped forward several metres....and got a reprimand from the chief starter.

By the fourth run I had regrouped and pulled a clean run at 14.9:yes:

Fifth run was a slight improvement to 14.8.

By this time it was 2.00pm. I was tiring and the air temp and humidity were rising so I made the call to head for home.

All in all an entertaing day which served to remind me that even after dozens of 1/4mile runs over the past years it remains an elusive disipline to get right on the day.

It always makes me smile when I hear the "experts" in the pub or on the internet say ..."how difficult can that be mate its only 1/4mile and there are no bends...."

Yeah right!!!

TOTB... bring it on!!!

Well done Pete. Don't suppose you got any pictures? What were your E.T and terminals, if that's the correct terminology.

Well done Pete. Don't suppose you got any pictures? What were your E.T and terminals, if that's the correct terminology.

I didnt take the camera this time. I had to take one of my own car last time so i seemed a pointless exercise.

14.8sec and 14.9sec were the two ETs on clean runs.

My terminal speed is always beteen 90 and 92 mph and today was no exception. I have hit 94mph on odd runs but that needs to be early in the season on a cool crisp day with high air density and a good prepped track. July no good for that.

I am in general a competent and consistent runner so not much variation .Todays "screw ups " to start the day were down to me being too hyped up and letting thoughts of a personal best get in the way of good launch technique. The car will simply not go any faster at the power level and that is verified by putting my figures in to a "drag calculator"

Terminal speed is always a good indicator of engine power if you work the figures back from it.

I have used it in the past too disprove the "b*llox" often talked by owners about the power their cars make. (I dont mean on this forum just in general)

I enjoy the day out doing 1/4miles but equally what fascinates me is the science and technique that underpins it all and especially as far as NA engines are concened.

Good stuff. Hopefully il get to run mine at the pod this year, at which point il post up results and see how I can improve, a lot is mostly likely going to be the answer haha.

Well done Pete and totally agree with you on the runs, looks easy when you watch it on the telly, different story doing it yourself.

Glad you enjoyed it, would be nice one day to get a few more zeds involved, maybe once we have all nearly finished sorting our cars out, we might get there lol

I would have been there, had the car been ready. But she's still in the shop getting all the rot removed. :(

Well the next event is August Bank Holiday weekend.

Its on my schedule to go but I have a few more events before then.

I normally put a post up showing the event nearer the time.
