As the title what do you guys recommend, currently I have the hks mushroom filter which so far hasn't given me any wet weather issues, but I want to change it. Don't see many apexi induction kits for the zed these days so need ideas but not a cheap eBay kit

At the time I was changing my filters the Apexi was getting like hens teeth and that was a good couple of years ago. I did a bit research and ended up with a pair of AEM Dryflows, happy with them and seem to be well made. I did have to import them from the states but even then I think it worked out the same cost as a single Apexi filter.

Never had that problem with mine (now two for the dual maf setup), but then I have them mounted as high

as possible behind the '89 spec bumper and the upper slot in the bumper is covered by the number plate.

Most importantly, I follow the replacement regime. The filters are the dry type (don't oil). HKS state replace

every 6 months or 6K miles. I do mine every 12 months as I do less that 3k per year.

I've got a JWT pop charger on my white zed. Very good and has a washable element I use the K&N cleaner and oiling spray on it it work a treat. Replacement elements are cheap enough too.

I have a large K&N cone filter which seems ok. I've only cleaned it once with the K&N cleaning kit but no issues so far..

Me too.

Outshines the Apexi any day. One of the largest and highest quality filters known to man.

Lovely large radius inside on the ally cone too.

I've run HKS filters below the nose panel and also down behind the indicators without any issues.

Outshines the Apexi any day.

How? Just because it's larger doesn't necessary mean that it has a higher flow rate or enhanced filtration qualities.

The A'pexi in tests actually has superior numbers against the JWT, unfortunately that test which was done is now offline. AndrewG might know of its whereabouts.

The JWT filter is very good also, but it doesn't 'outshine the A'pexi any day'.

There was a "test" that was conducted on a MKIV Supra in Japan, where the Apexi trounced the competition (HKS, Blitz & K&N IIRC). Proper digging showed the results to be biased.

On Toyotas I agree the apexi is easily one of the best. However on my skyline I found they caused turbulence as the air passed through the afm, causing the afm readings to go too high, basically maxing out pretty much as soon as I made positive boost. Changed for a different air filter, and suddenly it was faultless.

My zed also has an apexi, though I can't say I've datalogged it yet or added my wideband to see if it's also happening this time around.

Fair enough, it could have been something to do with the smaller diameter of the rb25 afm, but my skyline definitely didn't run well with one. Could have even been a one off somehow, but I was scratching my head with the issue for a while since I'd replaced the afm, replaced the wiring from afm to ecu in case the shielding was bad, tried a different ecu, etc. Still got the ecutalk logs somewhere I'll expect.

This is the one I know of:

Yes, definitely read the conclusion! I think the original article is still online somewhere, not sure where. Lots of pics and whatnot. I used to have it bookmarked about a decade ago :D
