Hi guys,

Been busy recently ripping out an old kitchen and preparing to fit a new one. I am at the final stages almost ready to install units etc painting and prepping electrics plumbing is all done.

Anyway in my kitchen I want to put up a clock, sounds simple enough... Unfortunately I always want to have my own personalised touch and have decided to make a clock using my old dimpled grooved brake rotor and caliper as I have seen some online but for the cost I already have the parts and knowledge (I think) to make my own and what makes it better is for me it's a zed clock.

Now for the main question. The wall I will want to put it on is thin and the rotor is not exactly light.. How would you hang it? :)

More specifically the type of wall plug or bolts..

Wouldn't want it falling as my misses walks under it into the pantry lol.

All comments welcome.

Cheers Jon

depend what mounting points you have on the clock?

There isn't any the clock mechanism is a simple battery powered glue on motor with clock hands.. Probably will attach to the rotor using silicone on the backside.

It won't have numbers on it just the hands if that makes sense ... so no actual clock face just the hands in front of the rotor....

the metal screw type expanding plugs.

Plus when you install them use some sort of binding agent for extra strength.

you going to use the stud holes in the rotar for securing to the wall

No as the clock mechanism would possible sit in the way, i was going to drill a hole behind where the brake caliper covers and one the opposite side, so potentially only one bolt would be seen.

i was thinking more the umbrella type fixing that opens up inside the wall when you tighten the screw

Yes thats what my first thought was, you think they could take that weight?

My mate said he secured a tv wall mounted bracket with them through plaster board. and his tv is still up. lol

Why is this in Z Discussion?

thought as it was related slightly with the zed, ie the parts im using it belonged.. lol

if your drilling into a dot and dabbed plasterboard wall this is what you need

16mm high speed hole drill bit

7mm masonary drill bit

brown wall plug

some 15mm copper

mark your hole that you want to drill

drill the plasterboard out with the 16mm bit

in the middle of that hole use the 7mm bit to drill the hole for the plug into the brick behind the plasterboard

use a long screw to help push the rawl plug into the wall, then use the screwhead of the screw to knock the plug into the hole properly (use a hammer and hit the screw to push the plug)

then get the copper pipe, push it against the brick, mark the outside of the plasterboard on the pipe

cut the copper and push it into the hole, the copper should sit flush with the outer of the plasterboard

put the screw through whatever your screwing to the wall and tighten up against the copper pipe, this will give you a solid fixing into the wall without distorting the plasterboard wall as it will pull tight against the copper pipe

its what we do, get a good solid fixing
