Hi all...I am newly registered and looking for a project car for weekend driving.

From 1980 - 1992 was a member of the Z club and I have owned many of the Z car variants...from a 240z through 206z and 280zxs to a 300zx (z31 facelift) before having to move on to more family orientated models....the one Z I always wanted ...but couldn't afford at the time...was the z32 Twin Turbo....so now much older and with spare time to work on a project car I am looking for a 300zx twin turbo auto (I know the purist among you will raise an eyebrow at that :-) )

I would prefer a UK variant...but I don't want to spend too much (up to about £2k) so will look at whatever is available....I would like a car without any mods..as unmolested as possible...that has seen better days cosmetically...but is sound mechanically....so if anyone knows of anything available I would appreciate the information.

I have ben monitoring eBay, Autotrader and generally online...but there seems to be a dearth of unmolested cars...

Many thanks ....Gary

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

I have become the proud owner of a Fairlady TT auto that ticked 'most' of my requirement boxes! ("mechanically sound"..)....it's in great condition and has been well looked after...but currently has a shot auto box!....I haven't yet completed the diagnostics I found in an earlier thread...as I haven't got the car home yet as it is being recovered this week.

In preparation of having to replace the whole unit I have been looking at those for sale.....can I ask what is probably a silly question....will an auto box and torque converter from a UK spec TT fit a Fairlady TT?

In answer to your question - yes, perfectly.

Hi and welcome - and congratulations on your purchase!

And yes, it will. It's essentially the same 'box - although the J-spec car has a different ECU to facilitate operation of the hold and sport buttons. And the UK cars came equipped with better cooling for the transmission fluid. Good luck with the 2nd hand 'box too; it's always a risk buying one as that too could fail within a short time, depending on its age and condition.

Make sure you at least get the oil changed when fitting it. Good luck with your new toy...:clover:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
