Hi Guys

Just been and looked at a SWB manual TT import.

Car is solid, low mileage, runs and drives well with pretty much no rust anywhere.

The only problem is the HPI check comes back clean apart from saying it is a 2+2

Am I being too suspicious here or is this a cock up in registering the car when it was imported.

As always any thoughts and comments are welcome.

Cheers

Did you manage to get a look at the Tax book/ V5 document?

  • Author

V5 is there with masses of bills old MOTs etc but I didn't notice if the log book said 2+2

I'll check the VIN against the V5 when I go back as I had an offer accepted on it.

Just wondered if anyone else had come across this issue before.

thanks for the quick reply

Vin number on plate on front slam panel and stamped into bulkhead behind the plenum..... check they match each other and the HPI info....

Probably the DVLA got it wrong as it happens loads....

Mine came up as a Z31 not Z32...... some plank typed the details in wrong.... V5 is correct, but DVLA have wrong info on their system..... DOH

What's the reg number?

See if anyone here knows anything about it's history??

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Feel a bit happier now that you have said a DVLA monkey may have typed the info in wrong.

Also spoke to owner and he said when he had problem with the DVLA just after getting it.

The Reg is J632 CPU

Same guy has owned it since it was imported shows as 3 owners as it was put in his mates name for a while then back to him.

I like the car it has to be said it needs a little TLC but I do like it.

Probably best to check V5 and HPI details against the stamped in chassis number, Witham is about 40 minute drive from mine........

Does look very familiar to me..........

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Probably a dvla discrepancy. Quite a unique looking Zed!

That's a politically correct way of putting it.

Damn I know they say everything in Australia tries to kill you - I didn't think that included the people to!

Kill you? That's a bit extreme.

Honestly, I'm on your side.

I can see you're keen to get a Z & I hope that you can find a good one.

One that you like & has been looked after by previous owners.

A good Z can be a pleasure to own & drive & above all is reliable.

The other options are a Z that becomes a pain in the arse & a money pit with very little resale value.

Personally I wouldn't consider that car if it was free.

But if you like it, go for it!

I believe other forum members may be too polite to express their views, or maybe they like it as much as you do.

Cheers mate

I think they bought everything from the SE Nissan catalogue, but it doesn't all work together!

Thats a bit strong Martin. Twin Turbo has an opinion and is a very helpfull member. We all have different taste's in Z's and this being a forum we talk about it.As for me I think if you like this Z then go for it. It will stand out from the crowed its in good shape and you will love driving it. The HPI check is almost certainly a mistake by saying its a 2+2.

Hi Folks

Apologies to Twin Turbo I certainly didn't mean to cause offence and it was meant as a joke.

I can't find a sheepish emogee otherwise I would be using it now.

I have been looking for a "keeper" and it will evolve as I'm sure many of your cars have over the forthcoming years.

There are parts of the car that aren't to my taste and parts that aren't, but that's the fun of owning something like that.

The key for me was finding something that can ultimately be what I want.

You are bang on in what you are saying Gary in that if you like it you should go for it.

I'm now figuring I owe a certain Australian a beer or 3:pint:

I can't get away with the looks of that car, I think it looks a little odd. That being said, body styling can obviously be changed but the wide panels could be due to the arches going, plus if you weren't wanting to keep them, it would be a lot of work to change I think.

In regards to the HPI thing, there's loads of databases that get used, such as dvla, experian etc and at a guess I'd think the HPI stuff would come from Experian, that's where most insurers get their details from rather than it being direct from the DVLA. Chances are, it's just been registered slightly wrong so I would let that put you off, but I would check the vin/chassis number matches the car and reg.

Good luck if this is the one you go for mate

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

Hi Bud still trying work posting stuff on here

I really didn't mean to cause offence and I posted and apology earlier just wasn't sure if you'd seen so I'm hoping that by clicking reply on your post you'll get a notification.

Apologies again from the man with both feet in his mouth

Mate, no offence taken or apology necessary!

Let's find you a good Z that you'd be proud to own.

You have to be a little patient until the right one comes along.

i think basicaly that is sound car to start on ...personally i would loose the rear wing and roof scoop and headlights put a set of decent deep dished alloys to show off the imsa style rear arches and go from there ...the down side would be getting the paint to match up ..when youve done making your own mark on it...interior is lovely ..but lose the red trim.....and the rear lights are a bit marmite ...but it is a shorty slick top manual tt and they are like hens teeth

Too late now she's mine lol

Off to a friends garage for full service and belt change.

Slight wobble at 80 so wheels to be balanced, rubber is all good except spare. the little yellow alloy has never been out, but the tyre on it looks quite sad.

Brake judder when braking hard so all disks and pads to be replaced, Calipers all move freely at the moment so will probably stay to start with.

Scoop is toast!

Wheels to be refurbed I'm thinking silver at the moment.

Rear lights to be changed for LED venoms not sure on 4 or 6 lights at the moment.

Respray may not happen this year but candy apple red where it isn't faded is stunning so I'm sticking with that.

Undecided about the front lights I flip flop between uuuurrggghh and hmmmmm.

Interior needs finishing in leather all over, I quite like the red trim to be fair, but there won't be any more in there.

Change of steering wheel. Couple of shiny bits inside.

She looks a totally different car in the flesh the pictures are a poor representation.

Very very aggressive to look at with the wide arches and the lowered stance.

Loving the spoiler as well - sorry guys lol.

Overall incredible condition for a car that age.

Drives straight and true pulls hard through all the gears.

I'm guessing running around 350 BHP at the flywheel by the way it drives up against my 335d M sport xdrive.

Which isn't too bad considering she's been sat pretty much for the last 8 years with just the odd run out.

I passed a LWB red 300zx going up the A12 towards Ipswich at about 6.30 last night as I was heading down. Red with a big wing was all I saw so if that's anyone on here hello!

The car has already been christened by my ever helpful friends as FBOD (Fiery Ball Of Death)

If I do change the front lights I might send the old ones over to Twin Turbo

All in all I think a good strong platform for my 600BHP target.

As I am married it may take a while to get there as the wife has a horse and for those of you who don't you couldn't burn money faster than that thing uses it.

Many thanks to everyone and hopeful here's to some new friends

The links been removed. Please post up so,e pictures once you have her.

I don't know what the car currently looks like, but the above is a bad path to go down. :(

Congrats on the purchase though!

I to like Si not seen the Z so not sure of current state!

I'm not a fan of high spoilers & changes to the Z that makes it look like a ?

I like my Z for the lines & looks with subtle upgrades along the way.

Good luck with ur purchase & happy Zd ing
