Ages ago someone posted a guide to safely remove the injector clips without damaging them. Does anyone have it as I can't find it?

I have a new loom and am paranoid about breaking the clips

If it's the older square type of injector connector, there is a metal clip that has to be removed first.

From the Middle of the engine, you can get a screwdriver on the end of the metal prongs, and push the clip off the back of the connector.

It's the same style connector as the water temp sensor in the pipe on the front of the timing belt cover (might be yellow) have a look at that one and you'll understand the design

I use a magnetic pickup tool to catch the clip as it comes off to stop it dropping in to the depths of the engine. Then just refit the clip before you push the connector down.

Hope this makes sense.

I think the newer style connector did away with the metal clip, and you have to squeeze the catch in to release it.

Large flat screwdriver under the rear of the injector plug and the spring clip will open itself as you lift up, get a thin magnet at the ready incase it pings off.

Cheers guys, yep old style with the metal clips. Got them all off intact thanks.

Question now is how the hell do you refit the metal clip?!?!

Place the clip back on the plug, ease it back slightly with each leg just missing the last notch of the groove, fit plug and using the same screw driver edge the clip all the way. Sometimes you can place the clip on the plug all the way home and push the plug onto the injector and it should click into place.

In fact im sure i put the clip all the way on, pushed onto the injector, then used the screwdriver to edge it in fully, its been a while lol

That is the correct way.

Cheers, was having no joy getting both sides of the clip to stay outside the plug, one side always slipped through the gap but I'll have another crack when I get some time :thumbup1:
