Hi Folks

The car I was after has popped up again and I'm wondering if I could ask you for some help and advice on it please.

The car looks great in the pictures but has come back on an HPI check as declared "Cat D Vehicle Damaged" in 1998.

It does shout off the page at me (mainly saying "buy me buy me")

I just wondered what the consensus of opinion is as to how much it is worth.

And also if anyone knows the car any further info would be great.

Any help will be greatly appreciated and exchanged for beers at a subsequent when I finally buy one.

Many Thanks in advance.

There are plenty of Z32's available, some have been very well looked after, some are pieces of crap.

Buyer Beware!

Trouble is here in the UK there aren't many to choose from at all and most of those few are poor examples.

If the engine is sound & producing the claimed horsepower, it will spin the wheels in all four gears, so once again, it would be beneficial to have someone with you that is familiar with these cars.

My car makes 570bhp and hooks up well in 2nd due to the power delivery & 275 tyres. Without the dyno, I would use the AFM voltage to give me an idea rather than any traction issues

Tbh, if you came to drive drive my car and red lined it in all the gears and started spinning the wheels etc... I wouldn't sell you my car lol

Off first thing tomorrow morning with my slightly mad friend.

His qualifications for the job include in my eyes.

1 He has an AMG C63 Mercedes running 525BHP

2 He has just returned from the ring where it took his friend in his GTR 2 days to post a faster lap time than he did in his Megane Trophy R

3 He has booked Woodbridge Airfield at the end of May (2.2 miles of world class runway)

See if you can guess why I want the Nissan!

The downside is of course when I buy it (think positive) he then either has to drive the Zed home or my Beemer.

I'll keep you posted and thanks to everyone for the help and encouragement.

I'm hoping the next thing I post is.

Holy :censored: its fast

Not sure to be honest

Loose plan is get there.

Plough through receipts (check if enough has been done to make it a 600hp beast)

Crawl over car

Check car matches paperwork

Test drive

See if it blows me away

Simples!!!

#insert phone call to 07930 896964 if alarm bells ring

In all seriousness I'm not going in blinkered, if the car wows me then I am up for a punt on it if not then not.

Mat's brother (Mat being the friend who is coming) owns a performance car garage has some experience with the 300zx so he is on the end of the phone.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert by any stretch but I have loved these cars for a long time so I know a little (famous last words)

Are there any "performance" parts that aren't really that would really ring alarm bells if you saw them?

I mean like Ditchfinder Tyres, Kamikaze Cams or Afterlife Turbos (other brands are available)

Once again thank you for kind comments and help.

My thoughts are this car has to be worth a good look, it could very well be something a bit special.

Good luck, I'd very suspicious of any power claims, just look at the dyno section on here, it would rank very highly on there yet no one on the forum knows the car ....

Before parting with any money, do a compression check

Quick update for those who are interested.

I am laughing because it was so bad.

Not sure what order to put these in.

No receipts offered to prove £15K spend

2 Dyno print outs shown - the last one from 2012 showing 412.5 BHP at the flywheel - Telephone number on the printout no longer in service.

Both rear sills rusty under the skirts

All 4 wheels really badly kerbed- some time ago as the water has got under the laquer

Fourth gear snatching and crunching

Several warning lights on

Dials on the dash not working but aftermarket dials working

Poor repair to rear bumper

Several damaged areas on the body kit

Massive number of stone chips on the front of the car

Misfire at 6000rpm

Overfuelling badly I don't think I have ever seen so much soot at the back end lol.

Last keeper change in January this year - so I reckon this car has been ragged since then and now it's starting to break they want to sell it.

Keeper change before was July 2014 so the previous guy didn't have it very long before yet apparently did all the mods

The guy selling it proudly pointed out the large amount of rubber on the road and said that was him.

Ridden hard and put away wet springs to mind

Bullet dodged!

if anyone else goes to look check the areas I have mentioned at the very least please

My gut feeling it is 350 to 400hp and worth about £2k

Right Back to eBay

On a different note to let you know the kind of friends I have to put up with Mat wore flipflops to test drive what we believed at the time was a 600+ HP car!

Right Back to eBay

You aware of this car?

and the thread on the forum which discussed it:

In particular, Joely P's MOT history post. Dealer pricing, but could move if the car doesn't sell at that price.

It is properly funny I have to say.

In all the cars in all the years I have bought I don't think I have ever seen a car so far away from the way it was described.

There was a huge space in the car park next to it and I should have realised it was for my banana boat that I had clearly just arrived on.

I had to have a look though and that is pretty much all it took - a look!

Thank you guys for everything I have a feeling this thread may well turn into a saga

Watch this space!

Hi Andrew

I did see it and you are right it looks lovely, but big time dealer price.

You never know and all that.

Cheers buddy I love this forum everyone is brilliantly helpful.

If anyone is curious about the runway thing I mentioned in the previous comment he's the link to the Facebook page.

Should be a really good craic if anyone fancies the opportunity to wind their cars right up and it would be nice to see some Zeds there.

Right now I am going for a beer!

I'm sorry to hear of your wasted time. My gut feeling was that it was a lemon, but the trouble is you have to view it otherwise you convince yourself you've missed out on a gem!

When I was viewing, one car, after a 1hr long chat with the seller about his car and asking lots of very specific questions I drove 4hrs down south to view it. I pulled along side it, hopped out and walked round it once, 15 seconds later got back in my car and drove home! I didn't even knock on his door, but phoned him politely thanking him for wasting my time and fuel.

In fact not one of the many sellers I visited including the one of my current Zed were 100% honest, far from it! My current Zed was hiding quite a few issues I have no doubt the seller was aware of.

Hey ho...

you are bang on.

Felt a bit cheated today because it was so far removed from the car they described.

But weirdly the overwhelming emotion was annoyance that they had killed that car.

Oh My God I'm in love with the Zeds!

That's it I'm in the same boat as you guys I have to get one now lol!

Seriously thank you all again for kind words and guidance.

Right more beer (medicinal to overcome my depression obviously) now.

Right I'm over my brief infatuation with the Red one

With a new day comes a hangover and an advert!

I have just spoken to the guy and now have first dibs on this one

Spanner time!!!

I figure I will have up to £4K to drop on it to make it nice.

What could possibly go wrong!

Any thoughts guys and of course anyone up for a road trip to Kent early next week.

I'll just wait for FunkySi to have a look at it.....

That is one fugly Zed! And personally, I would be very wary of buying one that's so unknown to the owner and that you can't really test-drive.

As a (sort of) benchmark, I sold my black LWB TT last year with a brand new MOT for £1500. The owner drove it from County Durham to his home in Swindon and is, to this day (as far as I know), very happy with his purchase.

I'd honestly keep looking, if I were you.....
