I have just stripped the springs(Eibach lowering ones) off these two Tociko Illumina rear shocks.

 

There is a huge difference between them.

Can anyone tell me what that difference is????

Pretty much so.

One functions correctly all the way down and back up on rebound. The other has very little resistance left although externally there are no signs of it leaking

When they were assembled with springs it was impossible to tell whether they were working or not which is the point im making.

If you are buying used shock n spring combos you have no idea how good or otherwise they are.

Caveat emptor.

 

I didnt buy these on their own so im not looking for a refund etc of a seller ...they came off a breaker I had a couple of years ago ...only got round to checking them today:thumbdown:

both fronts are OK.

From my experience, you get a driving with two effects:

 

On a straight line with unleveled road, the weak side is going lower faster than the other, and you get that strange wooble that makes impossible to keep the straight line with the front and the back...

 

On a bend, the weak side is sliding much easyer than the strong side...specially on wet road...

 

A MOT test will show the dynamic behaviour of the schocks. This is generally enough to advise you about a problem if you drive (or cruize) at low speeds on good roads.

If you have fun on a track, you will just be kicked out without knowing why...and having a very small chance to have the right correction before the bad occurs!

 

The schocks are the main compnents trying to keep the tire on the road with enough pressure to have enough adhesion.

With unbalanced ones, you quickly come to the same effect as having two different tire widths on the front or on the back... Try it once, but alone on an empty road!!

No no, English was great Hubert. Thanks for that, there's always the chance you would fit without inspection and without fluid leaking you may not realise if you never pushed the car.
