Hi just quick question, I'm not a big believer that 0-60 is the be all and end all its made out as I find in gear acceleration much more important and usable , but regardless I'd wonder if anyone has tested there 0-60. My car is dyno'd at 426 bhp. I like it to much to destroy it and like to treat it like an old car but if I was brave enough to give it 4000 rpm dump the clutch and try and get best 0-60 time has anyone any opinion on a rough time ?? Also any rough guide what it would top out at. Thanks for any help . My guess would be 175 ish mph and around 4.5 to 60, does this sound about right thank you

Probably sensible guesses there mate. What the car could do and what most drivers can actually do is different. I think I am fairly handy in a car but when I did launch it hard from a stand still it is so much harder than booting it from 5mph. It is really difficult to do well. And I did it 10 times to check

I think the top end would be really high given enough road but by the 175 you mention I reckon it would be slow progress. Mine did 150+ down the runway no bother at all.

Sound thanks . Like you said I don't mind giving it a bit but have to much mechanical sympathy to revving then dumping clutch which is the way to get best 0-60

and whAt bhp are you running roughly

2 years ago it took me 8.25s to reach 86mph if that means anything

I didn't time it, we were timing 60 feet and I was just feeling the launches. I wasn't rushing it into second at all, just launching in first then a fairly normal "one pause two" shift into second. I was getting 2 second 60ft times I think, whatever they were they were pretty rubbish.

I have about 450hp flywheel and 265 profile rear tires with a 6 puck clutch. Suprisingly it was easier to bog it down then spin it up. It was generally bogging down... then spinning up.

The best way (would be to ask a drag racer) Would be to keep your turbos working with a bit of clutch slip.

It's bloody difficult to do well.

My WRX Prodrive daily only has a paltry 261bhp (if that) and it would annihilate 99% of Zeds to 60mph. 4.5s to 60mph in a 1600kg front-engined RWD car from the 90s will take some doing.

Ok sound thanks. I'm to worried about mechanicals to be attempting, what would you guess your 0-60 would be if caught it perfect with 450 bhp as be a pretty good guide. Amused me on way home yesterday an m135 bmw desperate to pass me got on bypass just effortlessly pulled away. I backed off at sensible speed and he went flying past then, I read up and there over 300bhp and do 0-60 in4.8 so I was pretty pleased with that

Yes that's where 0-60 is flawed on the perfect day in perfect conditions with a1 driver would be differnt to man in the streets time. I'd fancy my chances though when rolling in low go. My daily driver is an a4 2.8 quattro and don't get me wrong it's not a rocket but pulling off from a damp road or island it's rapid initially the grip is immense

Off the subject I fitted a cambelt last week after dreading for days turned out to be straight forward, I had ten years working on peugeot though so most stuff easy after them awful pieces of junk

I hope you replaced the idlers and rollers on the cambelt path if you're treating it like that otherwise you may find that one lets go and then ......Bang goes the engine !

no i removed belt checked all bearings etc all fine. its only done 60k and generall opinion was only change if neccessary , it wasnt a bad job and if i ever here any sign of bearing rumble ill be on it. iv been a mechanic 15 yrs and now teach it at leicester college so im pretty experienced, only prob i had was bottom pully absaloutely seized on but a bit of gentle persuasion sorted that lol. love the car for 3700 quid theres nothing really quicker and the way it looks still amazes me. i plan on keeping it for many years

any ideas what power increase a front intercooler would gain and is it worth buying an induction kit? id only want one for the sound really but i suspect it wont make alot of difference noise wise

Quite a few have reported mid to high 4 sec 0-60 times recorded by gps over the years on here, with the usual chip and boost upgrade etc. They are a pig to launch quickly though that is true. Lots of anti squat and old bushes don't help. They always want to spin or bog.

how about with race logic traction control. or a launch control that's what I want have been in a car with both not a z it that was mega would love to see a z with it really think the z needs all the help it can get to handle and take off. after of coarse you have done the basic stuff uprated dampers lowering spings wider wheels and tyres better gripping tyres uprated bushes ect I will get the race logic I want it bad

Mine hit mid 12s with launch control & Nittos, but I would be surprised if it did a mid 4s 0-60!

I'd be surprised if it wasn't somewhere close mate, unless it pulls like hell once rolling. If I could crack into the 12's I'd be delighted, my best so far is 13.2 in my old mr2 turbo, which did 4.7 to 60. My skyline did 13.5, about 5.2 to 60 IIRC.

Yeah odd, as you say yours is a quick car and your an experienced and consistent strip driver so I don't doubt what your saying. However it just seems odd that so many have reported recorded those kind of numbers of the years, people not associated with being fibbers... Come to think of it car and driver managed to squeeze a 5.0 flat 0-60 out if a bone stock manual swb when new, I believe they switched to a more shall we say grippy tyre. So with the right traction some good driving and the easy stuff done it would make sense to be seeing mid 4s.

the only car and time I seen 0 to 60 of in the 4 secs was in the lotus elise I had. and under the 4 secs on my fireblade I have to say both car and bike had engine mods

I'm with Noel, I think realistically most TT's will be in the 5-6 sec range... The mid range pull then makes it up!

I've not seen any accurate results in the 4sec mark, just gmeters etc

Look at the Jtuner results from several years ago, that had proper timing, and best result was 5.3.

I agree, most will be hitting 5s, the quality of the rubber and the skill of the driver is probably the limiting factor more so than power, because that only makes things harder. Once mines back on the road il have a play, it snaked like hell just before it came off the road due to badly worn hicas and subframe bushes.

The best chance of seeing good 0-60 times would surely be Bob or Jaffa. Would like to are theirs if they have them

thats what i thought iv seen 0-60 times of standard cars ranging from 5 to 5.4 secs so surely another 100 plus horse power is gonna bring it down substantially? obviously if your brave anough and not worried about clutch etc

Tried launching one yet?
