Evening all, anyone got any suggestions on the sealant for rear lamps, need to fit my new 99 lights, ideally would liked to source the correct butyl strip tape, being able to remove in future is a priority so not using urethane adhesives or the like as they are permanent.

Cheers.

Note: when using it, stretch it and roll it. If you lay it on as it comes off the reel, it won't compress enough for the lights to fit snugly and you'll end up pulling the studs out or inverting the nuts.

I was wondering about the flexible gutter sealant that toolstation sells....... black mastic that stays flexible and seems to be the same as oem looking stuff.....???

this stuff....... http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p11002

Chemical characterization: mixture based on vegetable oils, polybuteen, fillers and additives.

Sounds like your normal bog-standard silicone sealant to me that has a little more plasticizer in it.....although made of more natural ingredients.

Exactly my thoughts si, which is why ideally I would like the oem stuff so it's dimensionally correct for the job, might ring Nissan tomorrow and try me luck.

You need to do the same with the OEM Nissan reel to an extent. MJP can get you the original stuff, I can't remember the price for it though, I think it was close to £25 from memory.

This stuff is not silicone. It doesnt cure. Its like thick black tarry peanut butter. After you apply it to your car, you'll be on here asking how to clean it off. Steer clear mate!

Sounds like what's coming out of my bungholio at the moment. :(

I did mine last year! It was not silicone cos I had to use a heat gun to release them!

...send some to Veilside for a trial.......be careful if you need a heatgun to get it off!

Errrr.... NO...... Si can keep it..... as I wouldn't want to try and use a heat gun on Si's arse..... lol

I used this stuff to seal my garage roof and it came off with some thinners..... But have taken on board your caution and won't be using it to fit my new rear light units..... lol

I will be using something else to fit my rear lights so they can be removed easily whenever I need to and won't need to scrape anything or heat up gunky mess every time.......:whistling:

If it works then I shall post up how well it works or not....... If it does seal as expected and is gunk free then it could make a good alternative...... If not, then I shall be ringing MJP..... lol

Works fine, compared to OEM sealant easier to fix lights in place and when removing them. Doesn't damage the plastic

of the lights and puts much less strain on the fixing studs as the units are mounted in place.

I also have two unused rolls of OEM sealant that came with the '99 specs that you can have for £15 all in.
