Interested to know whether the engine breather mod you got has cured your smoke problem?

Steve, breather kit has made hell of a difference, 3 Nissan tuners said turbo's were completely knackered, so ordered kit from Jonny, took me just under 2 hours to fit and was well impressed, before the car smoked so badly of boost it would fill the street up, now if i'm lucky it'll give a little tiny wiff now and again on idle, so the kit has helped by i reckon 99%, don't get me wrong, i'm sure me turbo's are on their way out and i'm hoping now Jonnies fixed me up with a date for a set of Hybrids to go on shortly, but i will be leaving kit on as obviously trouble started with back pressure problems, so it can only help prevent this from happening again sometime in future. If your interested for yourself i can post on forum how the system works.

Would fitting one of these breather kits protect the rear seals of the turbos if the cats were to be removed?

I like the idea of removing cats, but not the idea of buying new turbos! wink.gif

I believe so, after my cats were removed then fitting the Blitz exhaust system, the zed started after a period of time, smoking, starting off only a little then gradually with time getting worse until it was unbearable, this is why once my new turbo's are on, i'll be leaving the breather kit on too. What is this breather mod you talk about?

I had complete Feline removal around 10,000 miles ago and have not had any smokey turbo. Although if this mod can help lifespan of seals I would like to know more before it does happen.

Eddie, it's not so much just after removing the cats, sometimes when fitting a decent larger bore exhaust system as well as de-catting, back pressure is reduced and it is this pressure that helps maintain the seals.

It was a little while after fitting my Blitz system it started, however it only seems to happen on SOME cars, so the choice is your my friend, Smithy, I.O.M

Ok guys here's how the kit works, ON BOOST the one way valves are closed, Mio filters allow crankcase fumes to escape into the air induction to prevent build up, as per standard breather system.

OFF BOOST, which is where the problems are,

Internal valves inside the Mio filters are now closed preventing air from being drawn into turbo charger inlet pipes. One way valves now open, drawing a vacum from the inlet manifold, into the engine crankcase via the rocker cover connections. This metered crankcase depression prevents oil from escaping past the turbo end seals, causing exhaust oil smoke, there you go !!!

My conclusion is, the existing standard exhaust set up with cats, keeps back pressure nice and high, when this pressure reduces it causes the piston to wriggle free from the seal, until eventually there is a gap all the way around piston and seal does not mate up with. If your just removing cats it shouldn't be a problem, if your doing the exhaust as well, i would fit the kit, just in case lack of pressure does now ware out seals, if your smoking now already try the kit, it can only help matters as it did with mine. The kit can be fitted bt anyone whose got screw drivers and a few pairs of different pliers, it does to me look a bit tacky, if your engine is standard the black hosing blends in, in my case i like the engine to look nice so the first thing i did was order some supaflex red hosing to replace the original, it is very fiddly to fit though so have some patience, if you can get hold of him, give Jonny a bell to order one, around the £120.00 mark, hope all this helps guys, Smithy, I.O.M
