I would like to use them all year round due the nicer ride the car now has

I put winters on my daily from about November, to be honest, I haven't really had cause to use their supreme grip, however they are better in wet weather conditions too. Generally winter tyres are slightly more expensive and if used all year round' due to their softer compound will wear out a little quicker than normal summer tyres.

I think because of that you won't get the same fuel ecomony (if of course you're worried about it).

I had some tyres on the x5 from when I first got it it was a little hard on bump the winter tyre feels a lot softer the summer tyres didn't ever spin up even in winter with it being 4x4 the winter tyres I now like a lot am going to leave them on till need changing now as I love the ride its just a cruzer and don't drive it that fast. tho it does like skink when you but the hammer down and handle very well its a sport with the harder suspention. I don't mind if they wear out fast just like the ride its now giving me

I put Verdestein wintrack extreme tyres on my estate in the winter they make a massive difference in the snow and ice. However like Si said they wear quickly once the air temp gets above 10-15 degrees.

for the comfort they have giving me car they can stay on now all year round

Not yet..... Mainly because the only winter tyres I can find in the right (rear) size for my SLK are Pirelli Sotozeros (or something like that) - and at over £320 each, I reckon I'll soldier on with normal tyres. Just like I have done since passing my test back in 1987!!

As for your X5, it seems like so many big 4x4s nowadays, BMW choses to fit summer tyres on over-sized pimp-daddy wheels. I noticed the same thing when I had an ML350cdi on test last year. Land Rover still fits "all terrain" tyres on the Freelander 2 - and Julia's Rav is also fitted with such things too; so perhaps if one does have an SUV, it might indeed be best to do what you have said above!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

yes its a massive change I have 19inch stock wheels on mine I would not go any bigger due to the side wall being smaller on the big wheels so far its been a great drive with the softer winter tyre kind of suits the car better from a driving point of view. just need to get the tracking tweeked

the tread compound on winter tyres is designed to work in temperatures of 7 deg celsius and lower . i was advised by a tyre fitter recently that in anything other than extreme cold or ice you are better off with normal tyres . a bit like a wet weather tyre in the dry on an f1 car . having said that though the morning you encounter black ice on a dark deserted lane you,ll be glad of them but change them back as soon as poss
