Bell housing leak?

Good morning all, I seem to have developed a leak from what looks like the bell housing face. I'll try and add a photo, what's the most likely think?

Would this be gearbox oil rather than engine oil?

Cheers! [/img]

Probably the main seal. Gearbox, clutch assembly and flywheel will need to come off for that.

Could be gearbox front seals, could be engine rear. You should be able to tell if it's gearbox oil, it stinks it's much thicker and did I mention it's smelly. Best thing to do is check it's not coming from above as that's quite a wide spread leak. Clean the surfaces off then run it up and see what happens. Obviously being underneath a running car is dangerous and will be hot so I'm not recommending you do that.

i have just fitted a manual gear box and has a small leak so box need to some off now if its the engine mail seal the oil will dark. if its the gear box then the oil will look a lighter colour and smell like cat piss. the slave looks covered in it have a looks at your clutch fill pot in the engine bay to see if its gone down could be from that. the fix for mail seal and front gearbox seal is a box off job I will be doing my again soon. its not much fun pulling the box of atall

Cheers for the pointers, I got under and gave everything a good clean, left it running for a good while, and it didn't seem to come back, so I think it's a very minor leak that builds up over time.

There did seem to be oil higher up in the engine around the drivers side turbo, so it may be a slight leak from somewhere round there that is travelling down do the bottom of the bell housing. I'll just keep monitoring it for now :)

My drivers side turbo oil feed was doing this, at idle it didn't leak only under load. Take it for a quick spin the. Re check, worth a go. It's also worth check Power steering as that can leak and all end up back there due to the wind while your going along. Equally and quite likely a leaky lower rocker cover can make a right mess. Ive had just about every oil leak you can imagine.
