Well I took her out yesterday for a spin and she was running a bit strangely....... didn't feel like she had any power when she had warmed up to running temp.....

I bound a nice straight bit of quiet road and floored her....... felt like an NA with no kick from the turbo's at all.....

I then noticed no heat from the vents.... well slightly warm but not hot like she usually is.......

Temp gauge was at middle on stock gauge...... So carefully drove her home.....

I left it till this morning and checked the radiator....... not much water in there and the same brown sludgy muck popped out when I filled her up as earlier in the year......

It looks like oil and water mix....... So need to get a tester to see if the head gaskets are done......

I feel sick now as I don't have any funds to sort this at all......

I will be flushing out the radiator and cooling system tomorrow or friday and hoping the alloy rad isn't blocked with the muck.....

Then it is compression testing time and finally leak testing kit on the radiator to see if the head gasket has gone.....

What is the best head gasket to get and anyone got an idea of how much they are????

That`s where my wellies went! As for your na fuel ecu that could be a lot to do with it. Assuming you have a TT main ecu the fuel side will be getting the maps and signal from something the na ecu can`t properly respond to. Usually as a safe guard these things shuf off or go into limp mode.

I shall be fitting the TT ECU as soon as I get round to fitting the extra wires into the harness as there are 2 missing I think between the ECU's......

Need to work out which ones, where they go and just add them in.......

Weirdly she has run well since the implant.... only a few hiccups and splutters....... until recently....... always happens when you can't afford to throw money at them........ lol

Do check that ecu though. It has different maps for different stages i.e warm up , warm etc. and all ties in with the idle circuit.

The fuel pump control unit? It doesn't have any maps programmed into it.

Do you mean the TT fuel pump control unit? You're not running a stock NA ECU are you?

no I think he`s got it the other way around. What I was trying to get across to Russ is the the fuel ecu is in bed with the idle circuit. It looks like like he may be running na circuitry though looking through the posts

Hi Noel.... The main ECU is an Auto TT one.... The fuel pump control unit is a NA one... So only running pump on 2 speeds not 3..... I remember speaking to you ages ago and was going to get you to map the NA ECU and keep the NA fuel pump controller....

As I haven't had the finances to sort this out I am guessing my only option will be to fit the TT fuel pump controller and the extra wiring needed to run it.....??

Thanks for the input and support you give me.......

Well have replaced the TPS connector and the ECU temp sensor connector....... the TPS one was very green..... Looks worse in person than this picture....

Going to start her up tomorrow and see if it made any difference..... I also cleaned the TPS pins with nail file and some cleaner again to make sure it is good connections....

Have you set the TPS up?

Not since connector change, but going to check tomorrow...... I did set it up before JAE and was working fine...... but then it wasn't stalling and playing up..... lol

I will let you know outcome...

Went out and cleaned off the huge load of oil all over the N/S turbo, oil pressure switch, etc....

Sprayed loads of degreaser all over and left it to soak in over Christmas and Boxing day..... washed off with blast of Brake cleaner this afternoon....

Now letting this evaporate till tomorrow and then replace spark plugs with platinum ones, set up TPS, check timing and see if there is any difference....

I am also going to solder in a new Consult port to the ECU connector when I get a chance in the next few days as my consult cable won't work on the original connector..... just flashes green light and won't connect.....??

Software can't find the ECU on any port and just keeps searching..... Tried ports 1, 2 and 16 as all others are in use.... and now wondering if the port is corroded or data not getting through....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

I've yet to come across a failed Consult port, checking your cable on another car first of all is a good idea.

OKay..... Anyone local that has a working consult adapter that could meet up and check my car and would let me try my lead on theirs to check it works please???

Yep.......Yep.......... lol

Doesn't the consult adapter you bought the other week (the ones we were both messing with) work when plugged in to a laptop. Or didn't you get the serial to USB thing?

I'm not too far from you Russ although I don't like you very much

Your welcome to come and try it on my shlt box if you want.

I think he's wanting someone with a consult connector to try it on his car to check the consult port it working. Mind, I'm with noz on this one, I've not seen one that doesn't work (yet). But then again, Russ has huge calfs, they may have broken it while getting in and out of the car

Well she runs again and no longer is stalling........ But still feels more NA than TT.....

Tomorrow is check the TPS and Ignition Timing again......

I found a bolt wedged into the balance bar pipe to the idle air valve...... strangely this would have had to fall upward and be pressed in as it was well and truly jammed in.... needed levering out.....

Now removed, new viton o'rings fitted to balance bar, new platinum plugs fitted and she runs again......

Went for a bit of a run and had very mixed results..... sometimes I had back end spin up when flooring her pulling away and others like an NA.....

I noticed it sometimes and only sometimes feels like slipping clutch...... But being an auto box.....

I am guessing I have a few problems left to sort out......lol

Just waiting for a working consult adapter to arrive in the next week or so and I can see what the ECU is doing...... or not.....

Now I know she runs and idles okay.....

I have also found a leak on the rear of the NS head..... appears to be the VTC sensor leaking and the PCV hose leaking on back end....

Good work matey. Be good to get it hooked up to conzult. That clutch slip thing you describe, is it more pronounced on gear change, for example when you boot it and it changes down does it struggle to grab the gear?

  • Author

Revs go up as though boost coming in and then doesn't spin or take off..... just revs and no acceleration..... if that makes any sense.....

But next time I booted it....she took off better, but still not as I would expect......

was driving about 30ish and floored it..... no spin, revs went up quickly, but not much acceleration.....

I have also had No kick down a few times...... and the power light on dash lit up twice........

I had better result when I turned switch to power setting as well........

Started to wonder if ignition timing is going out....... bloody hard to describe..... I need someone who has a TT to drive her and see what they think as I have never driven another TT Z.......

I need to hook her up to consult.........

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Have you tried locking it down? Ie lock it into 2nd and boot it? Mine did this, the revs would just shoot up and hit the limter without putting down any power. This happened intermittently for a while, better when cold worse when warm until it just would hold the gear on boost. Manual conversion solved that.

lol..... did consider the spanish waiter conversion...... but like my easy auto's..... lol

If I went back to a manual I would be losing my licence in a few weeks..... mis spent youth, hand brake, car parks and lots of tyres......... lol

I will try going through the gears tomorrow and locking her down as you suggested.....

I am putting the Saab aero back on the road tomorrow as my daily driver..... so that should make me grin after I drop the kids off each day..... more than the smart for four that I have been driving..... lol

And give me time to sort the Z out properly....
