When heavily applied lacquer dries slowly, it has the tendency to shrink. You'll find that a good colour sanding following by a machine polish will bring back the gloss. Once that happens, you'll see any flake under that. At the moment, it'll be like looking through a mirror with condensation all over it.

It looks like it'll need one HUGE polish though!

Personally I think you've laid it on too heavily from what I've seen of your previous photos.

10 out 10 for effort :thumbup1: but a job like that needs to be done in a proper shop with oven, fighting a losing battle spraying a car in ye back garden

If I lived closer, I'd come and help you paint it Ted. You'd do yourself a HUGE favour if you watched some tutorials on youtube. They'll certainly help you sort your technique out.

Think your right si the technique I should have used was leave it alone in the 1st place

An expensive lesson lol, but great effort in wanting to do it yourself. Take your time and really get each panel perfect, i know people took the mickey out of mine for being in primer for over three years lol, but after nearly perfecting laying on the primer after several attempts i decided that i either need to hire a spray booth for the basecoat or get someone else to do it in their unit.

I went for option B and the guy who is a professional sprayer with many years experience did a great job, i supplied the paint etc, but he decided to use a primer he was comfortable with as mine was now getting on to be three years old lol and for what i paid, i was more than happy with the results

I put it all back together as i knew where everything went and how it fits, i also wet sanded the whole car to save on labour and he finished off with the compound and polish.

Over the winter im going to do bits and bobs in my workshop and gazebo as i want to do the engine bay and door and hatch inners and inside the bonnet, but im pleased i got the main body done in a spray shop, peace of mind :thumbup1:

Don't loose heart mate. I wouldn't personally start painting a car now, not without a heated booth. The humidity raises very quickly outside atm. It will end up all milky. Without being rude as said I think you need to go back to the basics, watch some tutorials, they really help. Most importantly, take your time. Make life easier for yourself by painting the car a solid colour too, that way there's no multiple layers. If you make a run etc you can sand back and re do that part. Candys and pearls are a notorious pita, for those who know how. Us armatures have to take easy options. I just had my first go with the gun and did my bonnet. It took me a week, hour here and there letting it go off and wet sanding etc.

my advice to you as someone who has done the same as you

Get the prep work spot on first

Chose a colour that will flatter you painting skills- back will show any ripples and a clear over base finish with a metallic base will show all of the mistakes and bits that decide to land in your paint

Chose the days you spray wisely - 20 degrees, low humidity. Ideally choose a good summers day. Get up early before it gets too hot then leave it to bake as the temp rises- do not do it this time of year

My solution to home spray was to use a forgiving colour, a solid colour and to lay down an extra coat so that I could confidently colour sand and then polish

Do you know what a guide coat is? If not read up and use this. As si says, watch/ read as much as you can and then a bit more.
