Your right - fully synthetic OW40, 5W40.

Id say it doesn't really get cold enough to warrant changing from a good quality full or semi synthetic 10w40

I use Mobil 1 Super 3000 all year round, it is well within the spec of even a Scottish winter.

If you haven't put the oil in yet, I'd go for a 5w-40 instead of 10w-40. It will give better cold start protection than a 10w-40 and be fine for all year round use.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G/ULE, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.
