Ok the waterpump shat its self after only 3months on the car so its got to go back for warrenty claim soooo main thing im wondering is...

Is it possible to remove it without having to take the bloody crank pulley off as im really getting to the end of my tether with the whole car so need to do it all myself as funds wont let me take it to a garage plus I couldnt drive it there if I wanted too ... :(

Was that an OEM water pump?

Crank pulley and timing belt do not have to be touched. You will have to remove the ancillary belts and pulley along with the timing covers I believe, don't think you will get access without doing that. Try...

Uncouple the viscous fan, if it's still attached. Remove the radiator and the two hard pipes on the block, the pump should now be accessible, if you can get on all the bolts like that, the timing belt and subsequently the ancillary belts etc can stay in situee. It's seriously not a massive job, just take your time.

The bottom cover behind the crank pulley is blocking access to the bolt for the pump tho :/

Wasnt oem it was a blueprint one ive been using thier parts for years with no drama and the other day the actual pulley on the pump came off its shaft... Wasnt best please as it sent the viscous fan flying around the bar smashing its self along with the rad and hoses :(

In that case it's gotta come off, that bottom ancillary belt pulley should just pull off, mine came off smooth as butter. If it won't you should get it off with a puller. I wouldn't use non OEM water pumps, oil pumps etc on a zed it's just not worth it, replacement is too labour intensive and can cause so many dramas.

Yeah im replacing it with an oem the company I got the pump from will be footing the bill for new hoses viscous fan and coupling new pump but only with reciepts of course lol

That's good news mate..... And, as you live in Somerset, how about getting yourself to Jimmer's place to make sure it's done properly!!

But always go OEM for such crucial components - I remember Jeff posting a thread comparing the OEM water pump to an aftermarket one a few years ago. Differences were amazing - particularly the size of the impeller. Considering how vital cooling is to a VG30DETT, the impeller on the aftermarket one was noticeably smaller than the Nissan part!!

Ahh ideal may have to somehow see if I can get it up to him as I cant drive it lol ?

Got to be worth it though.... When it comes to specialist works on these cars, you can't be too careful; whilst a decent local garage can do the routine oil and filter changes, fluids, brakes etc, you really have to get your car to Jeff or Jimmer for anything more complex!

Crank pulley and timing belt do not have to be touched.

Ok I know you have been since corrected but why did you post that? I have watched how the growing trend of misinformation here has become something of an epidemic in as far as in many cases tech questions are answered incorrectly with but with a convincingly positive and confident ( but wrong) poster, even if this gets corrected later then there is always a chance someone read the faulty information but did not revisit the thread again to see the correct answer and hence the spiral of misinformation continue`s when the reader of that post answer `s someone else`s thread and on and on. All I can say is if you do not know for sure ( done it or seen it done) say so and do not get drawn in to conclusions based on other possible duff information, be assured Stephen this was not a personal dig at you but its just highlighted an on going problem that seems to be not going away and is not just this forum Facebook is full of duff info as are other car forums.

I don't see why you should have to touch the timing belt or crank pulley? Please correct me if I'm wrong. The ancillary pulley on the crank yes because as he said he couldn't access the bolts with the lower cover still on.

I don't take it personally and maybe I explained myself poorly or maybe you misread what I said. The crank pulley and timing belt behind the cam covers are a separate entity and with the covers off should allow access the water pump should it not?

The timing belt partially obstructs the pump if my memory serves me correct? Hence why you would remove it to allow better access and avoid the risk of damage to the belt.

Been a long time since I did my pump in the car tbh, normally do stuff with my engine out.

I'm sure Jeff will be along to give the definitive answer shortly, seeing as he has done it a lot more times than anybody!

I actually just re-read the link I pulled up from the FSM which does mention the removal of the lower timing belt cover and of corse the main ancillary or "crank" pulley but no mention if timing belt removal or disruption.

I may break or sell the car now to be honest ive run out of time and money and its really got me Depressed walking passed it on the driveway everyday :( it needs a better home ive spent so much time and money when is the right time to say enough is enough?? :( even has 10months left on mot lol

Dont write a good local garage off for this work buddy any decent mechanic will do a water pump change with ease. My local garage did my cam belt and water pump change and i had it checked by Lee and he confirmed it was spot on, main thing apart from getting the belt timing marks correct is the correct setup of the belt tensioner.

Again mine was spot on. So if you can get that done locally you can then drive it to jimmer or jeff for a conzult session and a good fettle.

They can also check the timing belt setup as well.
